Dr. Isar Ul Haque
I'm not tying to be patronising, but yu have closed
your mind to an issue that is growing and
mushrooming by the day and doing a lot of good.
I have patients telling me that they and all in their family
have only used homeopathic off-the-shelf remedies for
years now and feel much healthier than they did when
they took allopathic meds.
They take it for headaches, minor colds, fever and body
pains. For anything serious, or if the ailment persists
they see a doctor.
I find combination remedies very useful when treating
animals and pets. They can't tell you what their problem
is and so combo remedies readily fix their trouble.
I notice a lot of vets now keep homeopathic combos. And
they have very good words for homeopathic remedies.
Who am I to knock that?

There is a virulent flu and long extended cough doing the
rounds here in Delhi. Coughs last for two months and those
who visit homeopaths get quicker relief.
I have used, and am using, a patent homeo med that is almost
magical. Gives relief very rapidly. Made by SBL Labs it contains:
Pul nig 3 1% v/v; Rumex crispus 3X 1%v/v; Justicia adhatoda 3X 1%v/v
Ipec 3 1%v/v; Spongia tosta 3X 1%v/v; Sticta pulm 3X 1%v/v
Coccus cacti 3X 1% v/v; Deocera rotunMT 1.2% v/v; Ephedra Vul MT 1% v/v
Piper nig MT .2% v/v; Zingiber MT .2% v/v; Polygala senega MT 3.25% v/v;
Ocimum sanctum MT .2% v/v; Blatta orientalis MT 1% v/v; and
Balsum tolu .25% W/v
This is jst for everybody's info.

Jeff, that's disinformative to say the least. If you're a homoeopath as you claim to be, then you cannot be ignorant of what makes a medicine "homoeopathic" (or "homeo"): its relationship to the patient's symptoms. What are the symptoms that this medicine causes? You cannot say, and nobody can say. The medicine has NO particular known relationship to the symptoms of any patient, even if you bothered to take them, and therefore can only be prescribed on that basis: allopathically.
Please don't continue to misrepresent this garbage as having any bearing on homoeopathic practice. You know better. Your potential customers may not.
Kind regards,
John

You can say what you wish, John, but the med is manufactured by one of the top
labs in India and is hugely popular. There are combos produced by Biron, Dr. Willmar
Schwabe, etc. that are keeping Homeo cliniks in bread.

Hi Jeff,
I have no problem with the consumer use of combination remedies - on this level they can be helpful and don't cause any long term problems. Education about their appropriate use and limitation is needed though. And yes, they do lead many into homeopathy.
On the other hand, if someone suggests that practitioners and clinics to use them instead of individualising the patients symptoms it does bother me as we should be able to do much better than that.
Is this what you were suggesting?

Yep, then I guess the fact that they sell it and it keeps you going makes it homoeopathic after all. That's wonderful. Cheers --

Great in an emergency if it works. There's always more than one way to skin a cat. Sounds a bit like the Narayani remedies - which are unconditionally great!

And of course they have the incredible advantage that if they're prescribed by any cretin calling him- or herself a homoeopath, they magically become homoeopathic to the patient's condition. I suppose that one must concede that advantage to them.

Could it be that a cough at certain stages needs it own remedy. That is very difficult to decide on and one can not make the patient return for assessment as often as necessary. To have some choices which the body can take up if it wishes maybe of some value. Heresy maybe but possibly practical!! Jean

Hi, Jean --
Yes, I think that very often the cough will reflect a different state from the chronic one, and that a choice in such circumstance is necessary.
In my view, it's no solution to the fresh problem of investigation and choice to rely upon the unsubstantiated belief, expressed here several times, that the choice may be left in the lap of the gods. It is not the patient's responsibility but the homoeopath's to choose the medicine based on the its known similarity to the patient's entire condition, and to derelict that step is to violate homoeopathy's sole precept.
Playing in the lap of the gods with combination medicines is of perhaps no greater concern than the preparedness of the ignorant to swallow any other medicine that any other uneducated physician may prescribe. It requires, for instance, no far greater ignorance than it does to prescribe or to accept a vaccine without knowledge of its primary effects, its effectiveness, its necessity or indeed most of its contents.
It cannot be said for it, though, that it bears any relationship to the practice of prescribing a medicine upon a knowledge of the relationship of its pathogenesis to the patient's state.
But of course, Jeff and Liz would take great care not to suggest that prescribing this polypharmacy in a pill were a homoeopathic prescription unless they had carefully read up the provings of the polypharmacy in question and noted the stability of the resulting pathogenesis.
Jeff and Liz, what materia medica did you consult, and just how comprehensive, clear, and stable are the results of the provings of this medicine?
