I'm feeling at a loss here. Today I sat down to rep a set of symptoms that I
thought were pretty SRP, but not so odd as to be hard to find rubrics for,
and therefore apt to yield a useful remedy. But what I ended up with is a
set of about 8 potential remedies, none of which, when I read the MM, seem
to be a match for the patient. I know there must be a "next step" in
figuring this out, but I have no idea what it is. Thoughts? Advice for a
lowly mom-homeopath?

Hi Cee,

Small rubrics can be kind of a "double-edged sword," because very often
they are incomplete--not every remedy that could or should be there,
is. Do you have eight *unrelated* SRPs, or are some of them similar?

Could you post the remedies you're using?

From one lowly mom-homeopath to another, whenever I can't find an MM match,
I try to focus on mental/emotional symptoms and modalities and look closer
at possible polycrests that match. Not very precise homeopathy, but that
is what I do when I'm lost. So far, that's worked out pretty well with
acutes in my family.

Well, there is the basic question that often comes up: does the remedy
have to fit the patient or does it have to fit the condition you want
to cure. i. e. the illness.

A "Pulsatill patient" may easily have a "Nux vom. illness". So the
simillimum for the illness may not match MM of the patient at all.

A case needs to be built. It is often worth repping out a SRP on its own, just for the 'let's see' aspect as they can be a quick route to the simillimum but the full case has to be built regarding what needs to be cured.

I didn't want to take up too much space and time!
Feels better in the open air--tends to be claustrophobic in a stuffy room.
Perhaps that, on it's own, isn't such a strong symptom. But a lot of the
remedies that came out of the repping have better for warmth/worse for cold,
and that is *definitely* not him.
Male, 43, overweight, but solidly built. No allopathic diagnosis, just
dealing with some long-standing chronic problems.
There's been a long-standing tendency to alternate between cheerful optimism
and despondency/feeling that he can't succeed at anything.
They've both been so long-standing, I'm not really sure. I *think* the uvula
sensation has been there longer, though. The ringing in the ears started
three or four years ago (or at least that's when he began to complain about
it).
No allopathic drugs for anything. I have a hard time even getting him to
take herbal meds (for borderline high blood pressure and borderline
diabetes). He feels "old" when he has to take medicines every day, and he
doesn't like that.
As far as I can remember, it's been there for a long time. I will have to
ask him if he can remember when it actually started.
No, he says that it feels elongated. But I added in some other similar
rubrics when I was repping, just in case.

I just didn't want to type out all the specific rubrics I was using! I was
looking more for help with method than specific help finding the remedy (not
that I wouldn't appreciate that, but I didn't want to impose on people's
time!).
I'm just a mom-homeopath trying my hand at a chronic case in my husband (who
would probably never be willing to go to a professional homeopath, even if
we lived near enough to one to make that feasible). He's been complaining
about the sensation of an elongated uvula for years, so this isn't something
acute.

One method I’ve found helpful in preparing for a consult with our homeopath
is to type out all the symptoms in terms of an imaginary MM listing that is
perfect for the patient. I have listed a partial example below. It takes a
lot of time, but I find that it collects my thoughts and helps me prioritize
the symptoms. And it helps me be thorough from A to Z.

Mind-
Forgetful, misplaces common words and expresses himself wrongly. Cannot
find proper words when talking or writing. Misplaces things. Cannot
remember things he did last week or last year, remembers only the retelling
of stories or very significant events. Amnesia.
Mental fatigue. Too tired to think. Wants to pass time with mindless
activities.
Dreams of being killed. Wakes up when he is killed. Cannot remember
dreams. Believes dreams of the future come to pass.
Desires to travel. Desires to fly. Music ameliorates. Sensitive to music
. Refuses to sing and to dance. Very good with sense of direction and
finding places.
Abdomen-
Violent cramping pains (scale of 1-10: 8-9) in abdomen with recurrent
vomiting and diarrhea. Cannot move because of intense pain. Worse
movement. Better lying on left side, knees to chest.

Back-
Sharp, stabbing pains (5) from upper spine to mid-spine, occurs in certain
positions mostly when sitting, but sometimes standing. About once a week,
afternoon or evening, lasting few hours. Better lying down on back.
Bladder-
Urine smells fishy every time he eats tuna fish. Urine cloudy when he
hasn't ejaculated for more than 1-2 weeks.
Chest-
Nothing.
Constitutions
Allergies to dust, cats, and dogs. Susceptible to respiratory acute
illnesses, such as pneumonia and bronchitis.
Coughs
No current symptoms.
(Recurrent coughs whenever he has bronchitis, about 1-2 times a year.
Hacking, productive cough. Mucus yellow
