Hello all,
I need some help and or direction on what to do.
On Thursday morning my cat Isabel was walking toward me and would grab her face with both paws and fall face first on to the floor, by the time I could get to her she had did it 3 times. When picking her up I could see there was something drastically wrong with her mouth: it would not close, saliva hanging in gobs, slightly red around the gums. I took her to the vet, who said, she has an infection in her mouth, Stomatitis and a few teeth need to be removed, they gave her a shot of antibiotics at the office and took blood work. I was to take her home and give her 1 ml clavamox every 12 hours, they would need this before they could work on her. Said she could eat wet food and be around my other cat.
Well, I gave her her first round of the clavamox at 10pm and somewhere between 1 and 2 hours later there was some vomit (more like spit up) of phlegm and a bit of the clavamox. She ate a very very small bite of tuna around midnight. When I woke that too was all over the floor as she didn't keep that down. Since then she is unable to eat, she wants to eat, is very hungry, but smells tries to open mouth then walks away. I have taken the wet food added water, made a liquid and tried to use a syringe and feed her that way. It seems she is unable to swallow? She just lets it run down the front of her? even water. I stopped the clavamox after the above mention.
When she tries to drink water, 1 lap of the tongue, she grinds her mouth, backs away, head goes up and to the right, slaps mouth, kinda gulps, noises? then leaves. Seems like a lot for a drop of water?
This is out of my hands, I don't know what to do, the vet said he can't force feed her, not sure if there is something in her throat without putting her under and then all the other work should be done then as well, but I still need to get the antibiotic in her, but I think she needs some food in her, could be why she is throwing up? I think at this point it was Thursday pm when she had that very very tiny bite of tuna and nothing else. I have tried chicken broth, water, and her wet food liquidifyed with water.
Today what is new is that her head is held to the right and up and is jerking 24/7 and the grinding/slaping of the mouth. Where before it was only doing this when she tried to drink/eat.
Most cats that I have had when not well don't want to eat, but she does.
she is somewhere between 13-16 years old, white, normal weight, though getting thin now. Her temp on Thursday at the vet was 101.2
She is active even now, alert, walking, wants to be petted.

Her Blood work came fine, they said.

I've been trying to look these issues up, but I'm not familiar with the veterinarian side of homeopathy.
Any thoughts?
Thanks
Shannon

This reads like an epileptic or convulsive type state - have you looked at Belladonna or Hyos or a number of other rx that could cover this, such as 'throat, choking, constriction, on swallowing'.

Try contacting Irene. Otherwise, shouldn't your vet take another look at her? maybe put her under? Sounds like an obstruction , don't you think? Is the jerking an attempt to clear it?

sounds neurological, at least the head sx. if there is infection/inflammation
in the head is may be affecting mouth, ear, brain.
i would give colloidal silver immediately while working on repping her sx.
i might also find an animal communicator who could help get the subjective
sx/sensations. that has been very effective for me in the past. very unfortunately
my communicator passed away suddenly right after my 19 yr old transitioned so
i don't have anyone to recommend from personal experience. there was/is a
woman in st. louis who did a reading for me a couple of yrs ago, but i can't
recall her name. you can go online and google animal communicators and
then call them and read their web sites. animal echoes site has some general
information on communicators that you might like to read. i know nothing about
the people they list on that site at the moment.
i will note that when my cat was having eating problems a few yrs back, i used
a product by dr. goodpet: a digestive enzyme that was very stable in high
or low acidity conditions. it was very helpful.
your kitty sounds like she is in great discomfort. can you see any inflammation
in her mouth--like inflammed gums or a canker sore? that happened once with
mine after another cat died. my survivor was in a state of grief and developed
several physical sx all of which were cured by nat mur at the time, including the
remnants of a rodent ulcer that she had as a much younger cat.

Shannon, I'm so sorry about your cat. I've seen similar sxs in cats with oral cancer, unfortunately, but it seems strange that it would present so suddenly. Has she had any difficulties eating or swallowing before this episode?
Peace,
Dale

Hi Shannon,

So sorry for your poor kitty!!!!
I wonder why the vet can't give her IV antibiotics while he does the work? If there's an obstruction, such as something stuck or an abscess, he'd need to deal with it then; if the cause is neurological, that would change the picture. (Need to rule out rabies? And hopefully it's not that!)

Was she absolutely fine and normal before this began, or can you remember anything out of the ordinary in the hours or days before?

She is an indoor cat. I don't know where she would have gotten anything poisonous, and I would think it would have shown up on the blood work?
Thanks for your reply

Hello Liz,

I did post on Irene's forum. The vet will be doing the work on her teeth and trying to clean out the infection, and at that time looking at her throat, but they sent her home because she needs the antibotics in her first before they will perform the above. I am thinking either there is something in her throat or it is so swollen and sore to swallow?

I am just trying to make it through the weekend with her not getting any worst

Thanks for your input
Shannon

Thanks for you input Tanya,
I'll look into the nat mur and I may have some collidal silver around here. You can see the gums are inflamed but you can't get her mouth open much more than that. She is over it and I do mean over it. She has so much saliva and mucus/phlegm that is just pouring out in enormous amount at all times that I am forever trying to keep her clean so that it doesn't increase more infection outside of her mouth as well. Anymore trying to get near her mouth is just irritating her more, though I won't ignore her either.

I have used the lady from animal echoes per your suggestion with my last cat, sorry to hear she passed.

Thanks for you suggestions
Shannon
