4 month old baby dislike breast feeding. prefer thump sucking, very active child, How we can solve this

can the baby be rejecting milk, as opposed to rejecting the breast itself?

Could the child be teething? Many babies go through a nursing strike when teething as the sucking action increases blood flow to the gums and causes pain. He / she may be using the thumb to massage the gums?

There are a lot of possibilities that can be solved by changes in how the mother goes about things... or maybe by homeopathy - but you need to find out more about the situation. If it's a simple nursing strike, skin-to-skin time with the child, nursing when the child is drowsy, either almost asleep or just waking, or in a relaxed time like in a nice warm bath might be more successful - this kind of situation puts the baby in a more primal or reflexive state. The child could be protesting the mother's reaction to something that happened - like if the child clamped down and the mother screamed/jumped (understandably) sometimes the more sensitive baby will be disturbed or confused and not want that to happen again and you have to lure him back to the breast. Or the child could be protesting something else - the mother could be too busy, or returning to work, or trying to feed the baby on a schedule that is not agreeable to the baby, or trying to sleep train the child.

Another tactic, of course, while trying to ascertain a practical solution to the baby's distress, is to take the totality of the case of the baby AND, for good measure, the totality of the case of the mother and prescribe for each of them accordingly. In the meantime, if the baby is not nursing, the mother needs to pump to keep up her supply and be SURE TO FEED THE BABY!! A nursing supplementer can also be used if the baby seems to be protesting a slow letdown.

I had trouble breastfeeding my children though I dearly wanted to, and much later, when I learned enough about homeopathy, I realized that I must have been firmly set in the (Pulsatilla, I think) characteristic symptom of NOT being thirsty. Breaks my heart to think that if I had just drunk more water (not other liquids, I did drink those) I might have been able to breastfeed. Teresa (Northern VA)

I had a case like this.
Root cause was deficient lactation or milk is not produced in the breast.
Child finds there is no milk in the breast, & decides why do timepass.
How can it be? is a straight opposition, but such peculiar cases do
exist in practical if not in theory.
This may be peculiar anecdote only in this particular case,
& It may not be applicable or different in this case sighted by Tanya.
