§ 18 Sixth Edition

From this indubitable truth, that besides the totality of the symptoms with consideration of the accompanying modalities (Aph 5) nothing can by any means be discovered in disease wherewith they could express their need of aid, it follows undeniably that the sum of all the symptoms and conditions in each individual case of disease must be the sole indication, the sole guide to direct us in the choice of a remedy.

I gave a patient Aloe for her gastric problems. She returned a few
days later saying it did no good. She also had lower leg pains and
I prescribed Bell. hoping it would alleviate both problems. She returned
claiming the med. did nothing for her. Before contemplating a change of
potencies,I gave her a mix of both Bell and Aloe hoping there would be
synergistic action to stem the discomfort...MAGIC!
She rang me next morning saying she was 'absolutely O.K. now".
Magic of combos and their synergistic action?

Absolutely. It has to be. Hallelujah! It just goes to prove that Hahnemann was wrong -- about everything!

:-)

Or perhaps she just got better, as mostly occurs, despite the allopathic treatment.

That's very interesting, Jeff. The Narayani remedies also work synergetically - and they can be fantastic in thier effects.

I.m sorry, John - LOL - you sound like one of the detractors of homeopathy!
It's the kind of thing that is always thrown at homeopathy: "he would have got better anyway" Can you not give the combo the credit it deserves?
And there are people like Joy telling ME that I'm an enemy of homeopathy!!

As in the other post claiming magic from a combo are you saying there were given separately but in quick succession or as a combined potentised 'stuff' (shall be call it Baloedonna). Can you be clearer about this please.

Hi Liz,
Can you give us some insight into how you have seen them working synergetically? Can you provide some real case examples with proper *indications* (that is, location, sensation, modalities and concomitants) that show the complaint needed a combination of single drug effects to "cure"?
Chris.

No, that's quite all right, Liz. I wonder, though, whether you read my reply to you under "Wise words from Hahnemann".

Some of the detractors of homoeopathy have a valid point in criticising the standard of evidence that some "homoeopathic" practitioners settle for in their non-homoeopathic practice that they freely pass off as homoeopathy -- and merely liking to believe something doesn't actually make it true.

Moreover, if one is free of wishful thinking, still appearances can be deceptive, for all kinds of reasons. One of the usual tools for overcoming false impressions is statistics, which necessarily involves more than isolated instances and is why Hahnemann did not formulate and declare the law of similars immediately upon the basis of a single experiment with Cinchona. Repetition, under identical and different circumstances, adds weight to the predictability of an outcome, and can reveal that not all is as it appears.

So, for instance, it may be that of patients who complain of muscle aches and stomache, 80% are better in three days without treatment -- and 80% are better in three days after treatment with combinations. Or it may even be that only 70% are better in three days after treatment with combinations. Without some numbers and some basis for comparison, one cannot say that the treatment improved the patient with any greater certainty than one can say that it prolonged the patient's suffering.

Certainty is what Hahnemann gave us with homoeopathy. Uncertainty is what combinatorials, vaccines, and other superstitions offer.

Cheers --

No, because I personally only have a few examples. But I have been to lectures and read many articles by better homeopaths than myself who use them with apparently very good results..
Do the research yourself - you'll be surprised at what you find. There is a long tradition of using them in India, where they see more patients in a day than you probably would in a month. I myself am quite happy to try them out based on this - as you obviously have been quite happy to try out classical homeopathy based on what others have told you.
Then...the proof of the pudding is in the eating. If you get the results you want, you continue.
However, remember one thing. Many of us who use combo remedies are also practitioners of classical homeopathy - we choose what we feel is appropriate. You on the other hand probably wouldn't touch combos with a barge pole.
So I suggest you try them next time you're stuck. Then you can pronounce on them!

Yes I did - and I quite agree - but until there is the money to properly research this, nothing will ever be properly proved or accepted by the detractors. And even Hahnemann's provings, experiments and trials are small fry compared to what 'Science' likes to call trials today.
I know we've argued a lot on this list about the superiority of proper provings over mere clinical evidence - however, I think sometimes we have to settle for clinical evidence in default of anything more precise. And the huge number of successful results with combos, especially in India, may have to suffice ...for now.
It seems to me that 'parahomeopathy' (I do like that!) is moving incredibly fast - there are so many new ideas out there that it's hard to know what's what. A couple of months ago I went to a seminar on ISIS software - did you know that if you are a user of ISIS, you can now buy a device to plug in to your computer which enables you to download the exact freqency of a remedy/potency in digital format. You can then sit your patient in front of the computer and treat them with the remedy in digital format - possibly even send it by email (I think). There is a whole remedy 'chest' to buy. Which is not to say that it can't be used classically - but just an illustration of what people are doing with remedies (like Peter Chappell).
I came away feeling quite sad - one thing I still like is the fact that remedies are still hand-made, triturated, diluted, succussed etc. by good pharmacies like Helios. I like the herbal, mineral, animal origins of our remedies, and hate the idea of a remedy being machine-made (which, as someone pointed out to me is not logical if you are working with energy) But I value enormously the connection with nature - and herbalists and alchemists across the ages. (Can you guess my remedy?!!) And I think the remedies are all the better for being made laboriuosly, with good intent, not just run up on a Sulis machine.
