Broken Shoulder, Pain Relief

88 year old female, fell about a month ago, broke left shoulder. Spent a month in hospital and rehab center. No operation was done because of other health conditions. Has been on morphine initially, then Percoset, Tylenol. Arm in sling.

I had no access until now, so other than Arnica gel and/or pills, any suggestions for pain relief? Person is on many allopathic meds (high bp, heart, kidney) and has done well over the years with them, *relatively* speaking. I would say she has a strong vital force, active mentally and physically, drives car, very socially active.

Thanks in advance for any ideas.

Susan

Hi Susan,

Symphytum is a "first-thought" for healing a broken bone.
Other possibilities could include calc-p, ruta, bryonia--actually,
there's this rubric:

Generalities; INJURIES, BLOWS, FALLS AND BRUISES; FRACTURES etc., bones
(p, 57, 8-63) (57) : acon., ang., anthr., ARN., ars., asaf., bell-p.,
bry., CALC., Calc-f., CALC-P., CALEN., Carb-ac., con., cortico.,
cortiso., croc., crot-h., cyg-c., des-ac., Eup-per., Ferr., fl-ac.,
hecla., hep., hyper., iod., ion-rad., kali-i., Lach., led., lyc.,
mag-m., mang., merc., Mez., nit-ac., Petr., PH-AC., Phos., PHYT.,
PULS., ran-b., rhus-t., rob., RUTA, sals-t., sep., Sil., Staph.,
stront-c., Sul-ac., sulph., SYMPH., Thyr., turq., valer.

The thing to do would be get just as much information as you can from
her, about how she feels *emotionally* and physically / overall, as
well as the physical pain--describe it? What makes it better or worse?
Beginning where and extending to where?

See if you find a remedy that suits both?

If that leaves you still with several choices, you could simply send
her a selection of remedies and have her try them, and see what helps.
She may find herself rotating among several, as symptoms slightly
change, if each covers an aspect of the injury but none quite covers
the whole.

is there any emotional fear about the accident. i posted
a bit ago about an older woman who fell and broke her pelvis.
she wasn't healing and had this big fear of death. her
perspective was that when you fall and break a bone, at that
age, you will die!
so maybe a dose of aconite to get this fear out of her system,
then you can work on the broken bone. i know there are other
rx but i have used symph a lot with broken bones and healing
is very rapid.

Symphytum 6 - three times a day and Calc Phos Cell salts to strengthen bone tissue is what I would give. It is not usual to have an operation for a shoulder fracture. he sling is the treatment and then physiotherapy.
