That to me is like learning remedy symptoms to be able to do a case.
One needs to start at the case end.

Same with the Organon. You need to know in what circumstance which
Organon refs apply.
It is not always obvious by reading the Aphorism, as to what ways it
is appropriate to apply it:-)
You can't "invent it backwards".

A discussion of aphorisms thus can only ensure understanding of the
language in them - not understanding of the applications and
potential applications which is what we really need, as these can be
very diverse.

Dear Irene
Very sadly, a lot of homeopaths have NEVER read the Organon cover to cover.
It is like some one professing to being a Christian but having never read the Bible! (or Muslim - having never read the Quraan etc)
The study of the Organon is a marvellous thing in itself. I shall never forget Sheilagh Creasy saying that every time she reads, she learns something new!
So it would be a good idea if colleagues on this list got the chance to read the book slowly and mull over it.

But how can you know what aphorisms apply, if you haven't *read* them
yet?
So--I second the reading part!
(And I do so as someone who's keep "meaning to", sigh--tho certainly
did read it in the past.) First learn the tools, then decide what
tasks they're needed for--at least that's what I'd say.

Now I should add a disclaimer--personally, the fact that it's in the
Organon does not IMO make it an incontrovertible,
never-to-be-challenged truth. But I do like to *know* what's going
with or going against Hahnemann's words--because casting them aside
should not be done lightly, and not without assessing the
circumstances, risks, etc.

Lois has a great "list" going on Yahoo, called "Hahnemanics".
(Organon only)

................Hahnemann's own writings in the original German, re-
translated for clarity and transparency, carefully and meaningfully
analyzed." (word by word) 6th Organon emphasis.

List has been going since 2004 (?) and is currently on Aph 183, emails
at the rate of 1 per week or so.

The list is on "vacation" for 2 months as Lois has temporarily
relocated.

I had assumed we had all read it often How else to know what it
says?

It contains a LOT of wisdom (between some amusing and lengthy anti-
allopathy speeches) and you find the gems in the "footnotes" as well.
Often one sentence means a whole new principle - and then you get a
long speech intended to persuade....
What is preached is also not always what Hahnemann did himself.

Is this by any chance Sulph personality? as in - Do not see their
own stuff/issues but pedantic about how others should see things and
want to be right? Might be interesting to see the writing in context
of innate constitutional type - hope that's not considered blasphemy
or heresy of some such!
Depends what it is. Natural laws will not be controverted, and there
are a few:-)

Some words are open to misinterpretation - such as his use of "small
dose" and "large dose", as it depends whether he is talking
allopathic or homeopathic at the time!
As with any good text, oner can fond something new each reading:-)
Each reading is in context of what you know at the time....

The Organon was edited and changed 6 times by its author. I think had he been alive , he would have edited it a few dozen more times, as his knowledge increased and he gained a more acurate picture of the laws of nature. So perhaps it is worth looking into what the new authors have theorised but only after one knows the Organon and its basic principles which have stood the test of time as far as a working model goes .
The homeopaths around him however , when they started embracing his teachings and practiced by them were not willing to embrace his changes....which is what caused the 6th Organon to lay in storage for a great length of time ..was it more than 100 years?

The Organon has also to be read along with Chronic diseases to gain an insight into the miasms.

Ardavan's topics on miasms available on the minutus.org library may help simplify and expand on Chronic diseases.David Little's articles would also help.

I think judging by the nature of the nastiness we have seen on this list, homeopaths have not changed all that much since Hahnemann was alive.

We are our own worse enemies and the drug companies and Medical associations opposed to homoeopathy are laughing ....

Or perhaps they have infiltrated us and are helping to stoke the flames?

What a shame you couldn't have turned that around and approached it from another point of view - 'yes this could well be the best learning curve of all, Homeopathy in a nutshell ad my mind is open to all that it may offer' what a nice relief that would have been. But already you have your doubts set out in front of you
