Hi, I was referred to this group by someone on another list. I have an issue with my kitten peeing on everything in my house. We rescued him from a dumpster 2 months ago. He is now about 4 months old. He is peeing on everything in my house! It's been going on since we got him, 3 beds, 2 beanbags, blankets, clothes; always something soft. But he's
doing it more frequently now. We do have another male cat in the house (5 yrs,
neutered) and they seem to get along great. My vet said they won't neuter until
he's 6 months. The humane society said they will do it now, but it will take 2
weeks to get an appointment. I can't have him peeing in my house for 2 weeks! I
have an appointment Fri to have him checked for a UTI, etc.

Is there a homeopathic remedy I could give him that may help? I don't think he's
actually spraying, he seems to be peeing. Would he be spraying at this age? And
I haven't noticed any other signs of him being sick. He is very skittish and
won't come to me or my husband. When we first got him he would jump up in my
lap, but now I have to catch him. When I do hold him he doesn't try to get away
and he purrs and seems to like the affection. My kids are able to pick him up
and he lets them hold him. He's very playful with toys around the house and our
other cat. Maybe he's going through some emotional stuff, is stressed? Obviously
he was mistreated by his previous owners. I don't want to get rid of him, but I
can't keep cleaning cat pee everyday!!

The reason is that nobody taught him any other way, so you will need
to train him.
As a rescue, he had no training before.

I suggest:
Confine him in a small area and put out plenty of litter and nothing
else absorbent. Show him -= put him in the litter and say "pee in the
litter", frequently - and if you catch him doing so, praise and give
a treat. Do not expand his territory till he has it right in the
confined area. Make it small enough that he does use the litter.

Once you have that going, gradually expand the area, but do NOT
move the litter tray position. if you later need to move it as his
territory is expanded, you can do it about one inch per day only, as
cats are place-oriented.

If you want to let him out of the confined area a while, first tell
him to pee in the litter, putting him in there (EVEN ADULT CATS WILL
LEARN THIS BEFORE SHOWS ETC) , then put studpants on him first, and
have him out under supervision to play games etc a while. Return him
to "home" after the free time, but make sure he gets treats often in
his confined are (not outside it) so he does not see it as punishment.
You can also use a BAch remedy in his drinking water - I suggest Crab
apple (to help his cleanliness attitude) and Rock Water (to improve
his flexibility to new ideas) - 3 drops each per day for example.
But mainly this is not a health issue but a training issue.
