Hi,
I started with a new case a couple of months ago of a 10 year old boy, who'd been treated with homeopathy for most of his life. Two or three years prior to coming to me he was given Med 1M which was repeated several times over the next few years.
He was brought to me because of tremendous fearfulness, fear of dark, fear of going to sleep if someone isn't holding him (even if he's not alone in the room), fear someone is behind him, fear of going from one part of the house to another even if there are people in the house. In many ways textbook Med. Only problem is - before receiving the Med 1M he wasn't fearful at all. The mother hadn't realized that she should tell the homeopath, who was treating mainly physical issues at the time.
When I started treatment I didn't yet have a list of previous remedies etc. I started with Phos, which helped a lot initially but didn't hold. After hearing about the Med, I asked the mother for as full a picture of physical and m/e symptoms before Med was given. Based on that picture together with the fears I gave Bell - again helping for a very short time but so far not holding. I want to carry on with the Bell for a bit longer to see what's going on.
It's not that Med was not relevant for the case - as usual I can't post details but Med is very much present. Only it looks to me as if the remedy was given possibly too high, and probably with too many repetitions. Rather than try to antidote the Med - which I'm not sure is at all possible - I decided to look for the more suitable remedy.
Does anyone have any opinions on this? Anyone seen anything similar?

Vera
what about either basing the case on the present symptoms and look at fear remedies including lyc, aconite, puls etc.
or if you feel the Med is really in the way of another remedy dealing with the issue - using a dose or 2 of lower potency through 2 or 3 dilution glasses
regards
Beverly

Hi Vera,
As you seem to suspect the possibility of an engraftment of
medicinally caused symptomology via high repetition of Med.,
what may be appropriate now, is to consider the entire case as-it-is
.. it does not matter to the case-taking whether the "tremendous
fearfulness" is an engraftment or not
-but where it DOES matter (possibly very much) is the selection of remedy.
It sounds like it might be advisable to avoid Med.
I have seen severe and long lasting aggravation / engraftment caused
under conditions similar to what you describe;
a very close simillium .. given in posology suited to a
hypo-sensitive individual .. may cause exactly this situation in a
hyper-sensitive individual.
It will be curable, it might take some time. Suggest you carefully
consider the young man's sensitivity, and be willing to zig-zag a
little toward cure .. if you get a "reversal of symptoms" such that
the fear-state is closer to what is was pre- Med. 1M repetitions, it
could be that cautious use of Med. (maybe LM1 diluted several times)
would be ok, if it still seems like the simillimum.

Thanks David, Beverley,
What is striking to me about the case development is that there were no fears before the Med. He must have had a sensitivity for the fears to have come out, but throughout his life until the Med 1M he was fearless according to his mother.
At present my approach is to take the case "as is", including the fears, but to try to give emphasis to older symptoms (pre-med, no pun intended...) as an important part of the picture.
I must admit I'm very wary of using Med at this point - although i did wonder whether it was relevant to use a low potency of Med to counteract the higher potency possible aggravation (yes, I know there are those who say no to low potency nosodes but I've found they can be effective). Under normal circumstances within a shorter time frame and possibly with different remedies that's what I would do. But since here it's a nosode, the time frame is broad with multiple repetitions, it doesn't seem that the "low potency antidote" is appropriate here.
Thanks for input,
Vera

Whether it is engraftment of the Med or not, i.e. a long drawn out proving, the child is only showing sx of his susceptibility, else how could he have them, so those sx have to part of the case 'as is' now and need to be incorporated.
It is quite possible that a related rx or a known antidote to Med will turn out to be the simillimum.

Hi Vera,
One thing I'd look at is, how does the *overall* case / situation
before he got the Med, copare with the current one? I mean, is he
*overall* worse now, taking into account both mental and physical sxs?
And at what point during those several years, since first taking Med,
did the fearfulness begin? Was it *clearly* a result of the Med, or is
it possibly just a result of growing older, having different
experiences, different stage of life, etc.?
Can you say if there were *any* significant M/E symptoms prior to that
first dose of Med, e.g. were there any discipline problems, or anger or
anything? Is it possible that he needed Med then and still needs it
now, just showing up in a different way? (Like many remedies, esp.
polychrests, there are many possible presentations...)

vera please gie him one dose of ALOE 200 and wait then treat the remaining symptoms. we have observed many times that when the patient is treated with many medicines he can not be stabilized with the indicated remedies. aloe helps in this condition and restores derailed vital force. and we r waiting up dates of ur previous case. that staphy one. pl keep us informed . thanking u in anticipation . dr israr ul haque

Thanks for the input. The Bell is bringing back some old emotional sx of anger and frustration - always to my mind healthier emotions than fear - and is having some impact on the fears. The picture before the Med was virtually fearless, there was one other possible trigger for the fear but I think it would have been magnified by the Med. Overall he is physically better, emotionally worse, which is also what implied wrong direction of cure.
Dr Israr, thanks very much for the input but I work differently from you. First of all I learned the hard way at the beginning of my practice not to give remedies on instructions of other homeopaths, however seasoned, unless after investigation I saw them clearly in the case. I don't see Aloe here - also he hasn't been treated with many medicines, only 3 or 4 different remedies throughout his life. In addition, I work with the water dosing methods and don't usually give 200 in chronic, more in acute. In chronics I usually work up to 30C and then move over to the LM scale, based on David Little's teaching of the method.
BTW in the "nymphomania" case the px has been doing well on Gratiola.

Med can be either / both fearful and fearless. "Fearless" could be
either simple absence of fearfulness (part of a healthy state), or it
could mean an aggressive and reckless state. Do you know whether his
prior M/E state was a cheerful, appropriate, well-balanced one, or
whether the fearfulness was something else?
