Tubeculinum/influenzinum for flu

I remember hearing years ago..don't remember what the source is..of taking tub
for the flu and taking influenzinum for TB. Anyone remember the origination of
this?

Hi Carol,

I have seen reference to Tub. as being useful in preventing (annually) recurring flu.
(this would seem to be a sort of chronic treatment of likely tubercular miasm, and might be "better done" intentionally so, rather than as rote treatment. otoh, if the individual were in chronic treatment with a different Rx, this could be intercurrent prophylaxis.)

Are you speaking of attempt at homeoprophylaxis ?
If so, perhaps we could expand the conversation to include concept & practice of homeoprophylaxis.
Prophylaxis is only applicable PRIOR to prodromal period; prior to or concurrent with exposure to pathogen.

Baptisia or "genus epidemicus" are others which may be used as homeo prophylaxis in influenza .. Anas bar. has also been (less) used.
Gelsemium has been used both for prophylaxis or for treatment of flu in intitial stages (and is what I think of from limited knowledge of recent non-event "pandemic.")
Oscillococcinum may be used at immediate onset of prodromal symptoms (not as prophylaxis.)

I can't think of how Influenzinum could be useful in treating TB.

There is a book on nosodes by Henry Clay Allen here for those who might need it

Hi,

Couldn't Influennzium be used for propolaxis?

Hi Ellen,
Yes, absolutely .. did I neglect listing it?

It would be one of the "front runners" according to popular thought.

My choice would be taken from among the Rx's within "genus epidemicus" particular to symptoms showed up in the specific geographic locale where treating .. and I'd weight my choice in a similar manner to taking a case:
ie, if the "flu" (or whatever epidemic) had rapid onset .. I'd look to which of the Rx in question match up.
If the onset were primarily intestinal flu-ish (for instance) I'd look to those Rx from "genus epidemicus"
If there were time to individualize (as opposed to going house to house and saying "here, this may help" or something like)
... I would give the remedy to match the individual constitution -not in the sense of "constitutional remedy, but in the sense of Hahnemannian theory of "chronic disease" and matching the Rx from amongst those "genus epidemicus" to the uppermost (most apparent, or "active") miasm ... which in many cases is more or less discernible physiognomically .. and is also a tale usually told in a history of past illness / affliction.

Dear David,
The way you write above it looks as if Anas Barb and Oscillococcinum are 2 separate remedies but as far as I am concerned they are one and the same . The latter is just the name that Boiren have assigned to it!!

Dear Dave,

I am planning to send my husband off on a trip to the US in three
weeks. So he will be going in and out of airplanes which seem to me
like a closed can for spreading disease.
So, what I know about the projected epidemic is backwards. I don't
know the genius epidemicus. I am just guessing and sending a bunch of
possibile remedies. I hope for his call if he is getting sick. I know
his constitution and his flu disease pattern in the past. If he
calls, then I select from what he has probably that's good enough.

But say he can't get through to me. Padamonium and pandemic have
finally hit. He is "flying" by the seat of his pants. He doesn't
know much about remedies but understands the basic premise of
homeopathy. I have pre-identified the major areas where his little
bag of remedies work (intestines, stomach, bones....) along with
keynotes. If he can, he looks at the symptoms around him, but that is
unlikely. So he looks at his own symptoms and decides on a remedy
based on the notes that he is carrying with him. Assuming he can
still read and think.

If he is too sick to think, his previous flu pattern looks like
Baptistia which is high up there as a flu remedy. So I tell him, if
he can't think, try Baptistia first. Especially if he is feeling like
his typical diarrhea and is curling up because his whole body hurts
with a fever. That is his flu and colds pattern.

From what you are saying that Baptistia is one of the possible
propolactic remedies, he might take it when he hears about the spread
of flu in the area where he has been etc. Or maybe I send him out of
the country with a dose of Baptistia and Influenza maybe a week a
part. What is the timing here?

What you were saying about the miasm of the "genus epidemicus" does
not apply to the patient specifically. The genus epidemicus has a
miasmatic nature??? Did not think miasmatic theory applied to acutes.

I appreciate your responses. They are really stimulating and helpful.

Best,
Ellen Madono

Hi Ellen,

See if you got my post on it--Julian Winston related his first
homeopath's enthusiasm for and excellent success with using it for
prophylaxis. If I recall right, he said that in thousands of patients
over a 30-year practice, he had never had someone get flu, who had
taken Influenzinum prophylactically. (Now this is definitely an
"anecdotal report", since we don't know how vigorously he researched
the results; but he's a credible source.) With JW he recommended 200c
once monthly, and I wish we knew whether he sometimes used different
potencies! I read recommendations from 9c up...

This is a very controversial subject. But...

IMO nothing homeopathic can take the place of vaccines (i.e., confer
supposed immunity).

The only time that homeopathy is possibly effective against a "disease" is

when it is used DURING an epidemic as a preventative‑‑ as Hahnemann used

Belladonna during a scarlet fever outbreak.

Vaccines, IMO again, are dangerous to your long‑term health. And using a

regimen of homeopathic nosodes or whatever in some cockamamie way (first the

pertussin nosode in 200, 1M, 10M, then three weeks late... then on every

other Sunday...) has never been shown to be effective i.e., confer immunity.

Genus epidemicus would be *best* prophylaxis (at least so I understand;
tho JW's h'th's record with Influenzinum sounds great). The problem is
that to determine it (or them), we need to have *really good*
homeopathically relevant information, *details*, about a bunch of
cases. And to have any degree of confidence in the choice(s), we need
to have record of its / their *success* in a large number of cases.
Speculation of that kind is certainly enough to base remedy kit
selections on, but I'm not sure it's enough to give confidence in using
that single remedy for prophylaxis? It would help a *lot* if we could
at least get *more* information about these cases!

Thanks Lynn,

There's a lot there that one could discuss... Re his statements on
homeoprophylaxis in general (repeated high potency nosodes), I won't
debate with him in his absence :-) but would consider e.g. Fran's
work, and Isaac Golden's (work and writings) as more authoritative, and
covering a great deal more ground... But specifically with reference
to the Influenzinum as prophy of flu, are you understanding his words
here as meaning he did not feel that would be effective? Or ??
