According to a letter written to Hering by Hahnemann in 1836, as qouted by Dr.Luc de schepper, he says "now as my medicine is very powerful, I seldom dissolve more than one globule in 7, 25, 20, or 30 tablespoons of water, and because the patient has no distilled water( which besides after a few days becomes spoilt and ferments), I employ for this purpose spring water mixed with 1/20th part of alcohol" .
I personally would recommend Dr.Luc's major works 1,Achiving and maintaining the similimum 2,Hahnemannian textbook of classical Homeopathy for the professional. These are excellant works by him after a thorough study of almost all old masters and of great help in understanding Hahnemann's guidelines in a more simpler way.
