Help - but off subject

I am an homeopath and an author. Recently I find when I write
in 'Word' and wish to delete a passage by highlighting it, it won't
delete. Instead on the LHS bottom I get a msg (Yes) or (No) and
then hv to click Y to delete. This is an extra step and annoying.
Can someone help to eleminate this step?
