Laminitis or founder in horses

Hi, all
Anyone in the group have any experience treating laminitis or founder in horses? A client's pony just developed it a few days ago. She gave Aconite and Nux vomica with no apparent effect.
The pony is stablemate to a full-size horse but definitely the alpha of the two. He's rather on the roly-poly side, loves his food, and goes at with gusto, even nudging aside his stablemate to get to the best parts. Per the owner, he's now spending a lot of time lying down and, when he's up, walks like an old man, not shuffling but not picking his feet up as high as usual. He's a pretty stoic creature, but she reports his face looks pained (I haven't seen him yet). No temperature or localized heat. (Ponies tend to have thick hooves, so there could be considerable inflammation without any evidence of it on the exterior.) No obvious cause for the laminitis, except he probably pigged out on field grass.
I'm suggesting Sulphur but would like to know if there are other remedies or supplementary treatments that might be helpful.
Peace,
Dale

No homeopathic experience
but here's a site with a good description of Laminitis, for a better understanding of what it is involved

Thanks, Lynn. There was some press on laminitis when Barbaro was put down, but I appreciate the fuller description.

My book { G MC Leod ]say acute Aconite 30c as soon as detected and very 30 mins until relief/. Belladonna 1M if acute and throbbing, fever and sweat, every 30 mins for 6 doses. Nux Vom 1M every 2 hours for 4 doses.
Chronic Calc Flour 1/weekly by 4 should help if not too far advanced I seem to remember using Calc Flour years ago.
I am sure this can be modified a bit as situation and state demands. Jean

Hello Dale
Regarding the pony with Laminitis - does he really have laminitis? Or a joint problem how old is he? - Aconite and Nux would not work for Joint problem.

I was at a friends who had a pony with Lamenitis, Painful feet from a too rich diet seemed like gout to me. I didnt have any suitable remedies with me so I knocked up some Urtica 6X from some stinging nettle crushed in some cheap brandy and succused in a bottle, gave a few teaspoon sized doses (can't remember how often) in his water and he responded really well.

Thanks, Jean. I have McLeod's book, but I haven't found his recommendations helpful in the past.
Thanks, too, to all who replied to my query. A call from the owner this morning informed me that after three doses of Sulphur 30c every 1-2 hours, the pony was 80-90% better. After the farrier checked his hooves, she could even ride him!
Peace,
Dale

Thanks, Carol. I'm not sure if I found the article to which you referred (the link did not work), but what I did find was extremely comprehensive. The link is:

And, yes, it does cover laminitis, too. I loved horses as a girl, but cases like this make me glad not to be a horse owner. Big animals, big & expensive problems.
Peace,
Dale

Interesting choice, Jeremy. What led you to Urtica? I was thinking of gout remedies, too, but there were no real sxs on which to prescribe a smaller remedy.
Peace,
Dale
