Minutus

Any suggestions are welcome... the only symptoms are huge golf-ball size welts that come out on places that are pressed (tailbone after sitting, hip from jeans, chin and palm from resting face on hand, bottom of feet from standing, etc.). They do itch, they become hard, vesicular, and red. No strong demarcation, no outline. Round or oval in shape. No effect from the most likely suspects - urtica urens, rhus tox, apis, pulsatilla, and silicea. Mezereum is helping (sort of) but not holding. Stronger potency maybe but 30c, 1 tsp dose aggravated at first...
Pressure urticaria is characterized as chronic and can last for apx. 9 years. There is no known instigating cause.
Any rubrics or ideas?

May not apply to your case, but mention as may be otherwise difficult to
find:

GENERAL COMMENT:
In dealing with angioedema and vasculitis attacks have found that
paraphenyldiaminum is effective, at least to maintain comfort and freedom
from them (can be debilitating, interrupting sleep, or life-threatening)
until a deeper remedy can be found. Angioedema is allied to urticaria
(both tend to be either allergic or autoimmune phenomena coming in acute
attacks by various triggers). Sx of this rx are similar to apis and urtica
urens - paraphenyldiaminum is a third candidate in differential of acute
angioedema IMO. The overall chronic remedy is needed to cure - and that
simillimum may not list edema or urticaria in its pathogenesis per se -
because provings don't necessarily produce the latter. (note that
Paraphenyldiaminum the crude substance is KNOWN to produce
angioedema/"quinkes edema" by poisoning). Though it is conceivable that
this remedy might fit some case as an overall remedy - it is likely usable
mostly as a palliative, and thus not be used in high potency for concern
about merely suppressing one symptom outlet of an overall constitutional
pattern of foreign life force infection. Have used 6C-30C. Ainsworths
has it.

YOUR CASE:
Probably the case you have is more oriented toward eruptive rather than
edema - and may have a type of bullae/vesicle that is
characteristic/peculiar and remedy-gnomonic. But note also that (it is
possible) in cases of this type that the outward expression may not be as
important as the pathologic mechanism. Cannot advise regarding pressure
etiology (note that it is not in rubric given by Rochelle below)- as I do
not have laptop with me as I write this. IMO considering the MM of this
remedy is worthwhile for any case of urticaria; angioedema; allergic or
autoimmune vasculitis; and some forms of pseudo-gout. But Rochelle's
rubric below is likely to be more fruitful in finding the chronic rx.

For what it is worth for this case - but a general comment at least.
May the simill. be found sooner rather than later...

My intuition, which is always opposed, is it could be Herpes Zoster.
May be you had chickenpox earlier.
One Dr. of international repute (Name can't be disclosed for legal reasons)
vouches Copaiva is indicative in tail bone hives.
Just a clinical tip, If it doesn't work for you, no use blaming any one.
Mezerium which you tried is also indicated for Zoster hives.
You can also try Varicellinum 200 or 1M as prophylaxis.

Thank you for the detailed info. There may be an allergic vasculitis type thing going on as she feels some of the welts come out along a vein. But others do not. There is no bruising or vein distension otherwise. Don't know if that would change anything in terms of remedy selection. But I will order the Paraphenyldiaminum - it seems a good one to have on hand.

This is definitely a possibility as she does have a problem with
chronic herpes zoster - however, they are not erupting nor do they
have the pain she usually experiences with them. They are transient
and more welt like than a usual outbreak would be for her. Don't know
if that matters. Her husband had varicella pneumonia this fall,
though...??

Oops, meant to say, part of her picture is chronic herpes outbreaks
(mostly lips, nose, face area), not zoster. The welts don't appear as
typical shingles and are not kept to one side. However, I don't know if
it might be taking another form...

Dear Erica – the nodular character of this and the redness sort of lead to the possibility of erythema nodosum (literally nodules with redness). This often accompanies auto-immune disorders, especially varieties of inflammatory colitis. It can be itchy. Just a thought. Sometimes looking at various ways to expand the paradigm is a helpful strategy, if it can give some insight into the underlying disease process (in this case, as Gail said, too much histamine, possibly from autoimmunity; in some cases chronic hives correspond instead to thyroid issues, in which case, the halogens are good remedies to consider).
In any case, you might want to look at either Sulphur or Hepar-sulph as possible remedies for this, depending on modalities and physical generals.
