help for father's acute inflamation emergency
Posted: Wed Dec 24, 2008 7:10 pm
My father seems to have developed a septic condition.
He is being taken to the ER right now because of the swelling in his
hand.
The docs do not know what it is or why but had last told him that if
it doesn't not respond to the new antibiotics by Fri they want him in
hosp on intervenous.
If anyone has insight to what is happening and ideas as to what can
be done to rouse his immune system please ... I will appreciate your
thoughts.
I can't believe that this is occurring over the holiday as everyone
will not be online or have time to answer this posting.
I am leaving for the Er shortly but will be checking my e-mail.
I only found out about his right hand this past thurs (18.)
(he casually mentioned it while we were having lunch & I copied a few
notes in the restaurant).
I have helped my father w/acutes in the past with good results but
for serious problems he goes to MDs.
A couple of yrs ago I did a check to see if there were any drug
interactions w/the 8 pharm drugs he was taking everyday because he
was having angina.
I found 7 poor reactions and his main doc changed the lipitor to a
diff staten and the angina went away.
7 Interactions are found for Drug Reax./ 3 drug-drug interactions
invoved in the meds below:
These are the medicines daily:
cumadin 2.5 mg blood thinner
avapro 75. mg heart med
digoxin .25 mg "
toprol 25. mg "
zetia 10. mg "
lipitor 40. mg cholesterol
proscar 5. mg prostate med
hytrin 2. mg "
These are the vitamins daily:
Q 10 enzyme
glucosamine
beta carotine
vitamin C
saw pometto
cod liver oil
.
Because of the hand swelling, inflammation and pain he is taking 2
antibiotics in addition to the daily med regimen above. (the side
effect of the above and interactions is 10 pgs so I didn't include
them but it is startling.)
Here is the info I gathered pertaining to his current condition..
3 wks ago while visiting a woman he loves who is undergoing with
chemo,
he used his r palm on a contraption to cut veggies, repeatedly
pounding down w/his palm.
After pounding his palm was painful enough that he went to the er
(He was in Florida at the time.)
His palm was tender but it went away.
2 weeks later (last week) he was staying alone in a cabin in upstate
NY.
It was very cold and he collected and carried a lot of heavy fire
wood. (My father is extremely fit at 84 yrs old.)
3 or 4 days after carrying the wood his r hand hurt so much as to
wake him up around 2 am.
His hand was so swollen, red (he thought the red had a purple tinge)
and inflamed and the pain so strong that he went to the the er again.
The docs didn't know why he was having this painful acute reaction.
The pain shoots up the inside of the arm into the bicep.
The pain is concentrated in the R palm, close to the thumb (the area
that had been abused/traumatized when he was chopping veggies 2 weeks
before.)
I advised that he drink a hot "tea" of kali p, nat-p and nat m
tissue salts and make them into a paste to apply topically.
He said the salts had an overall calming effect on his hand.
The next day he bought ruta 30C and apis 30C and I recommended ruta
because nbws the mechanical injury.
One dose ruta did not effect him (I asked him to judge by the pain,
color, swelling, tenderness and stiffness to judge any change.
Because of the urgency of this situation, Fri eve I recommended that
he take the apis 30C and that night his hand swelled up again,
preventing sleep. (I felt that I didn't have time to wait and I
couldn't find any poor reactions between ruta and apis.)
As far as the nbws and inciting cause that set off the original
swelling after carrying the wood, I wonder if he might have gotten a
spider bite.
Otherwise maybe he picked up a bacteria or virus at the hosp he went
to after the pounding injury.
I don't want to throw any more rems at him at this point & must leave
to meet him at the hosp asap.
(Was thinking of lach.)
Any ideas?
Thank you,
Lynn
