The biotherapic pertussinum is prepared from the lysate obtained, without addition of antiseptic, from the expectoration of patient suffering from whooping cough not yet treated.
Lysate corresponding to 0,001 cm3 of expectoration.
It is presented in ampoules of 1 mililitre for being used for homoeopathic dilutions.
1. Technique of Preparation
The collections are done according to the legal exigencies and in Petri boxes.
They are the object of different examinations:
Examination between lame and lamellas shows abundant mucus, some epithelial cells and some leucocytes.
Abundant microbian flora, some cells, some polynuclears, some lymphocytes.
It was not possible to detect the existence of any bacilli of Bordet Gengou in any of the collections.
The expectorations are diluted in 100 times of their volume in distilled water.
The initial dilution of 1/100 is congealed at 20; then decongealed in the ordinary temperature four times one after the other.
The lysate obtained before is sterilised by filtration on E.K.S. filter then distributed by fractions of 10 cm3 in sterile phials.
The fractions of 10 cm3 of the initial dilution are lyophilised so as to be suitable to be conserved without weakening. Each phial containing a quantity of product lyophilised corresponding to 0.10 cm3 of expectorations.
The lysate is characterised by the technique of preparation and by the control test.
This content of each phial is taken up in 100 cm3 of sterile distilled water so as to bring the concentration of the final product to 0,001 by centimetre cube of expectoration.
The final dilution is filtered on E.K.S. filters then distributed aseptically in ampoule of 1 cm3.
Inoculation on bouillon or better on gelose should not follow any culture.
By sub-cutaneous injection of I ml to rats weighing 20 g. does not cause any accident.
A rabit should bear without any damage the injection of 5 ml of the product.
In his book "Isopathie" Collet T.J.M. relates first the treatment of whooping cough with an isotherapic.
In September 1879, when I was staying in Marolles-en-Hurepoix (Seine-et-Oise) there was an epidemic of whooping cough among the children of that country.
The directress of the girls school brought to me some of the children suffering from whooping cough.
I took the secretions from the mouth of one of the girls and made from them the 6th dilution in alcohol.
I advised to give 5 drops of this remedy in two table-spoonful of water to be given in the morning, two consecutive days every week for 4 to 5 weeks even when the children have no fits of cough, and this because of the tenacity of the disease and its easy relapse.
The fits of cough diminished rapidly during the day although the fits were more frequent at night.
But after eight days, in many of the children, there was great amelioration, although some of them had the cough from time to time. After 15 days all the children became almost normal. Nevertheless the use of the medicine was continued, 5 drops every week for two or three weeks more in order to be assured of the complete cure as the disease often reborns out of the ashes.
"In January 1894, remembering the good effects of the medicine among the students of the school, I advised the same remedy to a mother who consulted me for her child attacked by the same disease which was then raging in the country she lived, in Creuzot, near Saint-Thibault (Cote d'Or).
I advised her to apply the same remedy and even sent her in a packet of powder of the ground globules of the 6th dilution of whooping cough of Marolles, I advised her to dissolve this packet in two tablespoonful of pure water and to give 10 drops of this solution in one half glass of the decoction of violet to be given in the morning before any food once a day, for one month or five weeks.
"From the very first day of the application of the remedy, the mother wrote to me that the young child was coughing much less.
It had only two fits at night. After eight days it had only occasional fits of cough, with less of suffocation and had a good general condition. After 15 days the mother considered her child as cured, but continued according to my advise the remedy, once every eight days, for still 2 to 3 weeks, in order to avoid late relapses.
"Here are then some cures of whooping cough by the help of Isopathy, by a medicine taken from another subject; but we have seen that in epidemic diseases it can be done specially when the isopathie remedy of the first subject has become well successful."
Then J.H. Clarke published according to the informations supplied by Cartier a book "Whooping-cough cured with Coqueluchin", London, 1906. He relates 14 cases of whooping-cough or whooping-cough like coughs treated successfully by Pertussinum 30 C repeated every 4 hours.
Clarke also relates a case of prevention with a favourable result.
Cartier confirms this case from one of his personal cases.
During the developed stage of whooping-cough Pertussinum seems to shorten the duration of the disease.
Then Duprat, Nebel in Switzerland, Pinart in Spain began to use this biotherapic.
Finally 0.A. Julian has used in his practice the biotherapic Pertussinum in other affections of the respiratory tract and of the nervous system.
The biotherapic Pertussin has no pathogenesis according to the methodology of Hahnemann.

For whooping cough think of Coccus cacti. Belladonna, Sulphur, Antim. tart.. Kali carb.. Kali bich., Pulsat. etc.
Tuberculous state.
Syndrome of Jacquelin-Burnand (Atypical tuberculosis of sub-febrile form, general torpid toxemia, of slow evolution. broken down condition).
Whooping cough. Spasmodic laryngitis. Asthma (O.A. Julian). Chronic bronchitis, bronchiectasis.
Spasmodic cough of persons suffering from bronchitis, or tuberculosis.
Convulsions (O.A. Julian). Epilepsy (O.A. Julian).
Encephalopathy specially when there is whooping cough in the antecedants.
Mental backwardness (O.A, Julian). Triosmia 21 (Mongolism).
In practice Pertussin has become a very efficacious remedy.
As regards whooping cough we may schematically mention the following treatment: Give at 21 hours a dose of Drosera 7 CH, the 1st evening; Pertussin 7 CH, the 2nd evening; Cuprum 7 CH, the 3rd evening; Hyocyamus 7 CH the 4th evening and Pertussinum 7 CH, the 5th evening.
During the day symptomatologically should be given the following drainage:
Alternating every one hour: 8 drops of Ipeca 4 CH, Drosera 4 CH, Coral, r. 3 CH and then 7 drops of Cuprum acet. 4 DH.
In the way one may get a cure in 8 to 10 days or maximum in 15 days.
I affirm this from my long practice. Of course there are some particular clinical cases, or an epidemic genius.
In that case one must try to find out one or two simillimum.
But the schema of doses indicated above will differ very little.
At the end of a whooping cough think of Aviaire.
However, if the whooping cough is not ameliorated within 3 to 4 days, give Pertussinum 7 CH one dose every day.
In asthma with fitful cough Pertussinum gives good service with Cuprum and Astragallus (See: Etudes Hahnemanniennes, cliniques et therapeutiques, p. 21, by O.A. Julian, v., 2 Le francois, Paris 75006).
In the affections of children of neurologic order Pertussin may equally serve well in epilepsy, convulsions and tetanus, mental backwardness, specially when the pathological troubles are consecutive to whooping cough or if this disease is found in the antecedants.
In the Congress of German homoeopaths of "Deutschen Zentralvereins Homoopathischer Arzte" of 19 and 22 May, 1971 at Bad Durkheim, meant uniquely for the Nosodes, in the presence of O.A. Julian, Dr. Romer of Russelhim reported some clinical cases regarding whooping cough of 2 adults and 3 children favourably treated by Pertussin C30 globuli and with some homoeotherapics selected according to the law of simillimum, such as Kali bichromicum C30, Verbascum D4, Sulphur iod. C200 and Mephitis C30.
