My 16 month old recently stopped nursing suddenly. His symptoms started
thus:

1. Restless, angry crying and colic during the night, usually between 12 am
to 1 am. He goes to sleep ok, then wakes up angry and crying for a hour.
Worse for consolation, doesn't like to be touched. Sometimes throws himself
on the floor, trying different positions. I can't please him no matter
what. Doesn't want to nurse.

2. Dry rash of little red bumps in the folds of his skin: inside elbows,
inside kneeds, and on top of feet where the folds are between the leg and
foot. During these inconsolable sudden tantrums, sometimes he quiets down
for a little bit when I scratch his rash for him.

3. Worse for cold air/wind (can't stand the fan). Sometimes asks for
water. Sometimes better for music.

4. Milky-white coated tongue.

5. Dry, rattling cough. Sporadic throughout the day.

I gave him Acon, which helped quite a bit with the colic. But he still
refused to nurse, so I tried Anti-c thinking it might have something to do
with his white coated tongue. Anti-C did nothing for him, so I went back to
Acon.

I thought at first that something hurt in his mouth that made him not able
to nurse. He often asks to nurse, but as soon as his mouth touches the
breast, he pauses, then turns away. Then I expressed the milk into a cup
and offered it to him, but he refuses it. As soon as he can smell it, he
turns away. He drinks water from a cup just fine. He will also drink cow's
milk--but not my milk.

Currently, his cough is better, almost gone. He's stopped scratching his
dry rash. His angry colic is almost all gone too.

But I can't find rubric for aversion to nursing or mother's milk.

There are a few remedies I would investigate: Silicea, Mercurius, Sepia, Borax, Nat Mur, and Dioscorea.
Rubric: Stomach, aversion, milk, mother's: Silicea (3), Cina (2), Ant-C, Lach, Merc, Stann, Stram.
This is not a diagnosis -- I would ask the doctor as all signs point to thrush, systemic yeast. Are you doing a probiotic? I would ask your doctor if that would be appropriate.
We used Culturelle which you can find at most grocery and pharmacy stores in the anti-yeast/vitamin section. It is expensive (about $20) but it works well and will last quite a while. I would break open the capsule and sprinkle 1/4 of the capsule into some expressed milk, water or whatever the baby would drink. We were able to overcome *major* systemic yeast and thrush with no other treatments except Borax, Sepia, and the Culturelle. Rashes healed quickly, colic disappeared, and nursing became pain free. Nystatin (the standard for thrush/yeast) is suppressive and can lead it its own issues. Diflucan is contra-indicated for infants although many doctors still prescribe it.
For us when the rash was unbareable, I used Calendula ointment which I have found not to be suppressive. When nursing was painful or even just when the baby continued to refuse the breast, I made a paste out of the culturelle and applied directly to the nipples. (Boiled water, let cool, mixed a few drops with the contents of a capsule to make a paste).

Thanks to everyone for the ideas for aversion to nursing. I decided to go
with Calc Phos as best fitting his picture. A few hours later, he was
nursing again and pretty much back to normal.
