Source
Culture of a bacteria of the Proteus genus : Proteus vulgaris, mirabilis,
morganii, reltgeri.
F. Sevaux conducted a detailed clinical study, but there is no Hahnemannian
proving.
Clinical symptomatology
Generalities
Proteus, a bacterium frequently found in the intestinal region, is a
biotherapeutic whose range of action concerns essentially phenomena of
digestive allergies.
Constitution
It suits subjects of three different constitutions : carbonic, fluoric, and
phosphoric.
Temperament
Digestive.
Intoxication
Allergic (psoric).
It is important to note that the medicine is rarely indicated in the
absence of all nervous symptoms, as Hui-Bon-Hoa stresses.
Mind
Psychological
Feeling of extreme nervous tension and over-exertion.
"Brainstorm" .
Outbursts of anger , aggravated by contradiction .
Hurls objects held in the hand, kicks out.
Children roll about on the ground .
Slight anguish during discomfort.
Thinks about suicide, without really wanting to die.
Tense, irritable, depressed and capable of murder when in a temper.
Aversion to company.
Nervous system
Vertigo.
Vertigo , with feeling that the ground is coming up to meet him .
Insomnia, worse when in the country.
Frontal headache , with feeling of heaviness.
Headache, aggravated during the week preceding menses.
Headache appearing in the morning .
Headache, with diarrhoea and furred tongue.
Convulsion, epileptiform fits, meningism during attacks of fever.
Digestive system
Mouth
Cracking at the corners of the lips , resistant to treatment.
Taste of salt in the mouth.
Gums sensitive.
Buccal ulcers.
Stomach
Acridity, pyrosis.
Painful hunger pangs , not ameliorated by food .
Nausea and migraine after meals .
Frequent hiccoughs, often lasting only for a few seconds, coming on average
once a day after meals.
Aerophagy, the subject puts his finger in his mouth to expel the air.
Vomits at the slightest exertion .
Gastric pains coming at any time, sometimes at night.
Intestines
Emotive diarrhoea .
Diarrhoea with headache and furred tongue.
Alternation of diarrhoea and constipation.
Constipation with empty urging.
Stools yellow, soft, in the morning after breakfast.
Haematemesis and melaena.
Presence of oxyuris in stools .
Aversion to butter, pork, beef, eggs, especially hard-boiled eggs, green
beans, salads, onions, garlic, cucumber, and chocolate, which he cannot
digest.
Desires fats, sugar, salt, butter and eggs.
Circulatory system
Feeling of weight in the precordial region .
Pain aggravated by effort.
Palpitations when lying down.
Palpitations from the slightest emotion.

Spasms of the vessels, feeling that the fingers are dead.
Intermittent claudication.
Bleeding haemorrhoids, accompanied by intense pruritus.

Feeling of discharge of greasy mucus in the post nasal cavity , in the

Nasal obstruction aggravated in enclosed places .
Sub-acute pharyngitis, with difficulty in speaking.
Cough with sputum.
Sense organs
Nose
Nasal blockage.
Impression of greasy discharge at the back of the nose.
Eyes
Burning pains .
Acute pains, stitching.
Pains ameliorated by pressure.
Vertigo, accompanied by coloured lights.
Eyes red , tired by light.
Intermittent failing of sight.
Ears
Acute or burning pains, like otitis , but without fever.
Urinary and genital organs
Urinary
Urine cloudy and foetid .
Whitish fibres in the urine.
Cystitis after eating pork.
Violent , burning pains in the urethra .
Pain in the loin.
Female genital
Menses with blood clots.
Copious white discharge, worse during ovulation.
Blood-streaked , brownish discharge before menses .
Fibrous blood clots at the end of menses.
Menses regular, with blood clots for 7 days.
Vulvar pruritus .
Vaginitis.
Boils in the anal and vulvar regions.
Locomotor
Upper limbs
Hands as if dead at night .
Hands burning at night .
Hands numb in the morning.
Flexor contraction of the little finger .
Cannot close the hand.
Lower limbs
Intermittent claudication .
Pain in the calf ; pain forcing him to walk with a stick; cramps in the
legs.
Feet numb, as if frozen, aggravated by cold weather.
Sciatic pain.
Legs look bruised.
Hammer-toes.
Skin
Perspires under the arms, hands clammy.
Copious perspiration from the axillae , falling in large drops ; clammy
hands .
Itching vesicles on the outer sides of the wrists and on the fingers.
Herpetic eruption .
Papular, pustular eruption, erythematous, dry, peeling, on the chin and
upper lip.
Severe pruritus .
Nails split.
Hair falls out.
Modalities
Aggravation
In the morning on waking, from exertion, from climbing stairs.
From drinking wine.
In stormy weather, heat, exposure to the sun.
In the winter, from the cold.
From lying down.
At night.
Amelioration
From moderate temperature, from resting and lying down, in the mountains.
From drinking neat whisky (a mixture of whisky, lemon and egg-white
aggravates).
One hour after rising, from stretching, from eating.
Dosage
Potencies :
from 5c to 30c.
Orally (powders), or via the rectum, by suppositories.
The strong potencies, from 7c to 30c are used at intervals, for their
desensitizing properties.
5c is used daily.
Principal symptoms
The predominance of digestive complaints, or complaints coinciding with the
ingestion of foods capable of causing phenomena of digestive allergies.
The suddenness of the nervous symptoms, and the extreme feeling of
intracranial tension.
Related remedies
Psorinum
Psychosomatic inhibition, chilliness, sadness, periodic migraine, nocturnal
need to eat, morning diarrhoea, weakness in the back and joints,
evil-smelling eruptions, appearing in winter, disappearing in summer.
Sulfur
Allergic (psoric) condition, burning skin, with eruptions, and itching.
Impatient, quarrelsome, asthenic.
Tuberculinum
Unstable, emotional, aggravated by physical or mental effort, emaciation,
sweating, morning diarrhoea.
Aggravated by damp and cold, and weather changes.
