A colleague from one of Herscu's classes presented a case ago treating an elephant who was wasting away. Don't recall the details, but I believe she'd lost a baby, or it had been given away to another zoo. The remedy in that case was Nat-m., which saved the elephant.
In the case of this elephant with a deadly herpes virus, you'd have to prescribe, as always, based on the symptoms. The hemorrhagic aspect and the rapid onset and death does suggest a snake venom, probably Crot-h.
An animal communicator would be helpful here. I can recommend Dawn Allen, a Massachusetts communicator who's helped me on a number of animal cancer cases. She has a website, www.dawnallen.org , but it may be difficult to get ahold of her, as she just had a baby. I also know a very talented student of hers who has a particular gift for communicating with wild animals -- would you like me to ask if she'd be interested?

Why would you need an animal communicator to treat an epidemic violent
acute??

it might help with getting a set of modalities and sensations in the case
for chosing a remedy. i admittedly know nothing about the dis-ease.

You wouldn't need a communicator if the symptoms were clear and observable. But a communicator can be very handy when it comes to picking up subjective stuff or symptoms that may not be readily discernible to a homeopath with inexperienced in dealing with elephants. This sounds like something that moves so quickly you'd need to have a treatment plan in place, assuming you could gain enough information from previous cases to fix upon a remedy. My first thought was Crot-h. because the speed and hemorrhagic nature suggested Ebola virus -- but that's just a thought and there'd have to be much more info to confirm it or suggest another Rx.

Well, I guess more information is usually a good thing.
I just hope that the cases would be taken and recorded as fully as
possible including the "usual" sorts of observations, so the results
might be generalized to cases where an animal communicator *isn't*
available, which would presumably be most of them... I don't have
enough experience to say airily, Oh, you don't need that! But of
course *most* animal homeopathy--not to mention homeopathy on infants,
the comatose, and other sorts of non-expressive patients--is done
pretty successfully just on basis of observation. But yeah, it's not
perfect; and this disease is so extreme, and unfamiliar, and the
situation unusual... Well, I do hope they'll try it, and I hope we get
to hear what happens!

Several cases and necropsies put together form quite an impressive list.
I've ben researching all those documents and my symptoms/description
notes are several pages long.

There are two main diseases, one for African and one for Asian
elephants, both fatal, but with different symptoms. Each illness is
associated (based on strong virology evidence) with non-fatal
superficial herpes illness in the other species.
Looks like the deadly problems arise when the superficial herpes of
one species becomes systemic herpes in the other.
However there are also cases in placeds where only one species has
lived.

MOSt cases are in crowded or stressful conditions - like zoos or
captivity areas. This is no surprise. Herpes likes to hide dormant
in the brain, and emerge to attack the body only when the individual
is under stress of some kind, and thus not in a good position to
fight back.
This is also well studied in cats who can have serious herpes
infections. The herpes is said to be there for life once it is in the
brain, but I have found (app 20 cases so far) that homeopathy can
eradicate it from the body within 2.5 years or less, and also that a
remedy made from the herpes vaccine is VERY effective prophylaxis.
If the prophylaxis is used per the standard protocol, with 6 month
boosters in cats, there are no symptoms and the virus seems to die
out. After that there is no evidence of it for life of the cat.
I would hope something similar can be done with the elephants -
both preventive homeopathy involving potentized dead viral particles
at 30C.... AND simillimum to handle actual cases. Another option to
consider is a nosode from one elephant to help another.

And there are 4 herpes viruses involved, some worse than others -
specifically those producing an enzyme that is used in cell division
and which the virus can incorporate into the host cell DNA. That's
part of what makes it a super-fast killer.

I have used other remedies for diseases with speed and hemorrhage. I
feel it warrants proper analysis.

I see some comparisons that I find interesting:

Overall the Asian elephant illness has blood plasma leaking into the
body, (edema initially as opposed to bleeding).
The illness I work with most in cats (FIP) has the same problem -
blood plasma leaking out. In cats it leaks into the peritoneum or
maybe the thorax - but in elephants it leaks mainly into the head,
and limbs.
I have NOT found snake remedies useful at all by the way in the cat
illness. The main rubrics involve loss of vital fluid, rather than
hemorrhage.

FIP in cats however is more like Dengue fever in people in that it is
a wasting disease. The loss of blood plasma causes fast starvation -
note the back and hip bones sticking out of the cat in the above
webpage link.

The Asian elephant disease is very different in that regard, the
heart and pericardium damage are direct cause of death, so while
elephants have lots of flesh to sustain them for a few days of
illness, they can not handle the heart damage. It's a big animal that
needs much blood pumped around....

Different emphasis needed.
