Over the years my homeopathic library has grown to include books,
booklets, notes from meetings and classes, stacks of journals,
collections of email discussions, supplier catalogs, clippings, etc etc
etc. I've begun to look seriously at the digitizing programs (such as
OmniPro)as a potential way to accumulate the information in searchable
files. I believe OmniPro does an OCR conversion and stores the
material searchable PDF files. Has anyone used one of these programs
or found any better way of handling the library that is taking on a
life of its own?

OCR is a long cumbersome process. I tried to do it a few years back.
Of course now the software & hardware is better, but it is still a tedious process. Since you have to scan every page, you must remove every page from the book for processing. Yes, you can scan the pages in the book, but the scan comes out skewed and the OCR process produces many errors. The time you have to spend to correct OCR errors is time consuming, even with a good spell check.

You can always try a test of a small book or about 20-30 pages, to see if this process is worth it for you.

I use OCR a good deal - the past few years the software has indeed
come a long way. And even my little home 'all-in-one'
printer/scanner has an auto feed - so I could set it to scan 25 or so
pages each evening. The programs I am considering are
the 'organization' package that let you file, organize, and search
multiple files. I don't know how well they work, and would love
input from anyone who does use them. I know this is a common problem
for all of us.

My goal was not to scan books - but rather that stack of papers
(articles from various journals I have accumulated over the years,
class notes, those dear old old pamplets that will most likely never
be included in the Radar/EH type program libraries, material I have
picked up at trade shows, etc.) - that nasty stuff that takes up
multiple file cabinets and is never handy when I need it.
