HI ALL,

I am LOVING that I have Radar running in a window on my AppleMac
(under WINDOWS), so that I can see and use and swap data between
Radar/Windows and anywhere on the Mac, on the fly. I just open as
many windows on the Mac as I want - and one of them is Windows (well
I think of it as Windoze) and there I installed Radar.

I have WINDOWS XP HOME EDITION on an Apple Computer (MacBoook Pro)
under Parallels, so as to use Radar.
HOWEVER I SWEATED BLOOD TO GET THE RADAR USB SECURITY KEY TO WORK
under Windows-XP Home Ed.
(Don't worry - I'll take some Lachesis to get the bleeding under
control.)

I am SO GLAD I found a solution though, and wish to share it for
anyone else who wants to run Radar on a Mac
- or under Windows XP Home Edition, and not have to reinvent this wheel.
I am running Windows under Parallels on the Mac, for its several
advantages over other approaches,
so this will also be useful information to anyone who wants to use
Radar on a Mac.

The Radar Key did not work till now. This is the best solution I can
come up with, in case anyone else needs it. It is between rows of
asterisks below. The rest is technical explanation (first) and
troubleshooting (below) that may or may not be needed.

Parallels (downloadable software for about 75 bucks) is a great way
to run Radar on a Mac as it allows Windows and Mac to be up and
running at the SAME TIME and you can toggle between them and exchange
data between them in the usual several ways listed in Parallels for
data exchange between the two "computers". Other software options
make you reboot the computer to change between Radar and Mac.
Windows runs as a "virtual computer" in a window on your Mac.
Other Windows-for-Mac options require rebooting between using Mac and
Windows as if there are separate Windows and Mac computers, and so
you lose the interfacing. That is not so with Parallels. For example,
as a tutor, I can be looking at a Radar analysis in Windows while
writing about it in an email or other text software on the Mac.

The problem is with the Radar Security Key.
Everything else works just fine.
I have figured out a way to do it however, and I share that here.

Technical explanation, which you can skip if you like and just go to
"THE WORKAROUND":
If you let Windows do the installation of the Radar USB key as you
boot up Windows, it does it incorrectly resulting in a Code 10 error
and nonfunctional security key, and Radar will not work without the
security key. (Updated Key firmware MIGHT one day fix this. Currently
it's an issue.)
What happens is that Windows automatically installs "Aladdin USB
Key" but fails to also install the necessary "Aladdin HASP key".
If you use Windows Hardware Wizard to install the Key instead of the
automatic install Windows uses when it starts, it installs *both*
correctly.
The problem is that you can not select the Hardware Wizard to do this
instead of the automatic system in Windows as you boot up, as Windows
thinks it knows what it is doing. The other problem is that the Key
installation is messed up each time you exit Windows, (possibly
because Parallels does not see it; the light is off in Parallels.) In
Windows the Key light is on which is essential for Windows to see it.
In any case, Windows uninstalls/reinstalls it incorrectly when you
exit Windows and then enter Windows again, resulting in a Code 10
error. So frustratingly - Radar will not work because of Windows not
seeing or installing the Security Key correctly.

THERE IS A WORKAROUND.
The disadvantage is that you need to do this each time you enter
Windows to use Radar.
But it works - and that's worth a lot.
This lets the security key stay installed correctly till you exit
Windows or unplug the key.
(Plugging it back in causes the automated installation with Code 10,
and not the one you need).

THE WORKAROUND:
Every time you want to start Windows to use Radar:
Boot up Parallels, without the Radar Security Key.
Boot up Windows.
Plug in the Security Key thus:
Use a consistent USB port for the key as Windows otherwise looks for
more than one of them, as it does not correctly uninstall them.
Be sure the Key light comes on. If it does not, unplug and re-plug to
make the light come on.
If it still does not come on, go to *** below for why, and how to fix
it - a one-time fix.
If this is already a mess, with two installations of the Key, see
below at ### for how to find this out and fix it - a one-time fix.
The rest here has to be done each time you go into Windows to use Radar:
Go to Control panel.
dbl-click System.
Click Hardware.
Click Device manager.
Click Universal Serial Bus Controllers + sign to drop down the USB list.

IF there is a yellow exclamation point by the Aladdin key, uninstall
it thus:
Right click (Ctrl-Shift-Click) it, click uninstall, and confirm.
Exit back to Control Panel.
Be sure the Radar key is plugged in with the light on. (See *** below
if light is off)
Dbl-CLick Add Hardware to start the hardware Wizard.
Let this do the job of installing the key properly.
Exit back to the main Windows screen and start Radar.

IF there is no yellow exclamation point and it shows two entries for
the key thus, you are okay to start Radar:
Aladdin HASP key
Aladdin USB Key
Exit back to the main Windows screen and start Radar.

This seems like a long list to do, but it takes only a few seconds
once you are familiar with it.

TROUBLESHOOTING:

*** If your USB key is not running - no light on - either when you
boot up or some other time:
This is a Windows powersave feature you need to disable:
Go to Control Panel
Dbl-Click on Hardware
Click on Device Manager
Click the + for Universal Serial Bus Controllers to list the USB devices
Right-click (Ctrl-Shift-Click) USB Root Hub
Select Properties
Select Power Management Tab
Clear the checkmark from "Allow the computer to turn off this device
to save power)
....Repeat the process for a USB 2.0 hub if you have that as well.
The Radar key draws relatively low power (uses the minimum for USB
device), but be aware of the pawer save issue for other heavy usage
USB power drainers.
Now return to "THE WORKAROUND" process to install the key properly
above.

### If your Windows thinks there is more than one key because you
used different USB ports to try and make the key work:
This is a Windows XP Home Edition goof-up (or a Key firmware goofup,
hard to know), either way Windows does not correctly uninstall when
you remove a key. You will get a "Code 10" error if you click the
yellow exclamation point at the appropriate place below. You need to
do this:
Go to Control panel.
dbl-click System.
Click Hardware.
Click Device manager.
Click Universal Serial Bus Controllers + sign to drop down the USB list.
Uninstall - one at a time - ALL the Aladdin-related items here.
(Radar's Security Key is an Aladdin product).
(You might need to uninstall ALL your USB devices, and let Windows
reinstall them, but try just the Aladdin ones first.)
Right click each one (Ctrl-Shift-Click on Mac), click uninstall, and
confirm.
Repeat for each Aladdin USB listing.
Exit back to Control Panel.
Be sure the Radar key is plugged in with the light on. (See *** above
if light is off)
Dbl-CLick Add Hardware to start the hardware Wizard.
Let this do the job of installing the key properly.
Exit back to the main Windows screen and start Radar.
Next time use a consistent USB port for the Security Key and use THE
WORKAROUND above.
