It's very reminiscent of the "if homeopathy were effective, everyone would know about it" touted by the masses. Reminds me of when my dad insisted, "you can't cure the common cold, otherwise everyone would know about it" and about 30 minutes after a dose of Arsenicum was laughing and well and reluctantly admitting it worked.
Many of you may remember my 2 year old's encounter with Palmolive dish detergent? ... http://pearlofhealth.blogspot.com/2007/ ... in-it.html And I had an incident with my cats a year and a half ago where they were so sick with an upper respiratory and no remedy I could find worked... I was lucky enough that one of the cats sneezed a chunk of mucus out onto my hand. I made a remedy out of it and both cats were cured in 24 hours. Neither has been sick again since.
I do like to find the right remedy if I can. I don't make a habit out of it, but I am firm believer in tautopathy and isopathy. Neither always works but then again, homeopathy doesn't always work either ... yes, yes, I know homeopathy always works... what I meant was... me, as a human, I don't always work right.
I have never recommended tautopathy or isopathy to a client but what is it the masters advised... practicing on oneself and one's family. Yup ... that's me.

Oh come on Erica, maybe the cat sneezing up the lump of mucous was all the rx that was needed. It is nothing to me if those who want to be tautopaths be that but it isn't homeopathy and never will be and the way it infiltrates homeopathy with the use of potentised substances is having a reaction world wide. One or the other but one is not the other (I am glad to say).

Homeopathy only works when we find the simillimum and are crafted at getting the dose and potency correct as well - homeopathy is only as good as the practitioner - when we fail we are next to useless and when we succeed it is the best but please don't confuse the two practices or worse still mix them together. It doesn't seem as if you have the background nor mindset to grasp the
concept that:

Homeopaths have tried it EXTENSIVELY, and have written from the
background of their broad experience in homeopathy, that their
experiments with isopathy / tautopathy had largely been failures.

That is factual.
That you perceive this as "a weak argument" speaks to your position on
the facts rather than the facts themselves.

There are still homeopaths and not-homeopaths doing various
experiments with isopathy and tautopathy.
I'm not interested in trying to dissuade you from experimenting on
yourself or even your family, nor even interested in persuading you
that studying and practicing homeopathy is likely to benefit all
concerned ...

But that is certainly my experience, my understanding from a fair bit
of study, and the published opinion of such great lights of homeopathy
as Constantine Hering.

What homeopathic books do you have ?
Are you aware of the availability of online homeopathic texts ?

plus a decent amount of practice
plus the implicit ongoing study / learning of materia medica
would bring one to the general conclusion that this lifetime is not
long enough, nor the memory (mine anyhow) perfect enough to fully
take on-board the existing "accepted" materia medica.
I don't think it's necessarily "a bad thing" to prove new homeopathic medicines.
I do think that there is a tendency for people to get caught up in "the new."
-and I do think that they way to "the medicine of the future,"
homeopathy, is a fairly well trod path, it's not rocket science .. but
it takes considerable study and practice. (and of course it doesn't
hurt if one has the rocket science gene

In "modern society" .. for homeopathy to persist, grow, and flourish
.. there is the constant need to weed the garden.
Just as any other garden needs decent soil, sunlight, water, and some
attention to pests and weeds, so does the garden of homeopathy.

(I know I'm not telling you anything you don't know. )

I agree with you. It's the equivalent of:

If homeopathy worked at all well, in general, we would have quite a
lot of it in all the hospitals don't you think?

The answer is - No, the people who know where and how it works, just
carry on using it.
And the unbelievers with blinkers on, keep being blind to its merits.
But there IS a principle in the Organon that applies anyway:

Tautopathy definitely has merits. In the preventive medicine area,
nothing is better!
It follows the perfectly good homeopathy principle that it will
prevent the disease or actually what it does is to build resistance
to the covered symptom set in question - and anything similar enough
to come within a "simillimum" of that tautopathic remedy.

If you look in the Organon (mine is not handy to quote a specific
aphorism number) you will see how Hahnemann explains that the people
taking a remedy for which they do not have an illness - become
stronger and more robust in health.
Using a tautopathic remedy for illness prevention is using that same
principle.

Using it to undo toxicity also works in practice - the example Liz
gave being a good one.
How else to detox an unknown poison before death ensues?
Waiting for symptoms of toxicity in cats reminds me of the "too late"
oil light I had on my 1935 Citroen.
"Too late" or "Tautopathy" is an decision.
I for one will do whatever is in the best interests of the individual
at the time - using whatever knowledge and experience I have at the
time - whether I can make a homeopathic case for it on paper or not!

Please do not speak for all of us that say the opposite. Yes
homeopaths have used it extensively - for many generations - and we
have found it VERY EFFECTIVE.
You got it back to front:-)

Why else do you think tautopathic remedies are still in such regular
use?
I would not be without many of them, as they keep my feline family
healthy and vaccine-free for example.
The same applies for thousands of felines, dogs, llama, etc etc of
breeders/farmers I know.
As Hahnemann says - taking remedies without being ill, builds robust
health (and resistance to those illness symptoms).
It's a staight-forward homeopathy principle after all.

As for using them as detox - that also is fine and follows a detox/
drainage principle - not homeopathy though it DOES use the
homeopathy principle of a succussed and diluted-to-nontoxic remedy -
but as detox it is equally relevant to good health and so a great
adjunct to use, along with nutrition, reiki, Bach remedies and a host
of other systems that help the health. Homeopathy by simillimum is by
no means the only way to arrive at a healthier state, even if it is
the one we can not do without!
Claiming it the "only" would be tunnel vision of the kind we accuse
allopaths of using:-)
It is certainly a valuable part of my health promoting repertoire:-)

I agree David and there should be an obvious differentiation to the general public and homeopaths as well it seems when a drug potentised does not = homeopathy but that there are plenty that have received their provings and make an excellent contribution to our MM's.

I just feel that some new provings just add to the already bulging reps and some rubrics are becoming so large they are almost unworkable, especially in the Mind chapters. However, if a new proving gives credence to strong physical sx that might hint of curing serious diseased states then they come high up the ladder but I think we already have many of those. Just my opinion and I am sure it won't stop new provings anyway

Of course you are welcome to your opinion but as my gran said when I
was ten and she was ten times that and making profits in a 2 year old
business she started, "If you don't use it, you lose it" and she
meant the brain power she used daily to learn new things.
If one quits learning, one has "quit" altogether - in our shared
view. I suspect Hahnemann would agree - else why 6 Organons... the
last being close to his death time.
It depends how you look at it.
The principles are good but they can be implemented in new ways (as
hahnemann was wont to do) - and more principles can be added (as
Hahnemann was wont to do), and new remedies and information on them
can be added (as Hahnemann was wont to do)......
So if you prefer to leave it a dead science at the 1834 stage, that
is your prerogative. I see it as Hahnemann did - as a live and
growing science, needing good minds to take up where Hahnemann left
off. We have challenges to meet that he did not have. Must we put
blinkers on and not address them?

Tautopathy has very valid usefulness in specific ways, as countless
homeopaths are aware, and they/we are not so dull-witted as to
continue using something that is useless:-)

where indicated - though your asumptions about my own homeopathy
practice are scathingly worded with that invalid assumption and a
number of others thrown in as additional spiciness?
