Hi Shannon
The solar plexus is not the pit of the stomach, but the epigastric fossa, however, your source described it in a way that could lead you to think that.
The solar plexus, which is a bundle of nerves, is located behind the stomach, and it one is hit in the ‘pit’ of the stomach or epigastric fossa area just below the xiphoid process, the solar plexus which lies way behind it, can be temporarily ‘stunned’, which is quite an event, which you will not forget!
(I have been ‘winded’ both physically and emotionally and the effects which were the same physically are due to a shock to the solar plexus causing the diaphragm to go into a spasm)
Also, when a person gets a feeling of anxiety in the ‘pit of the stomach’ they are really feeling a solar plexus.nervous system response, rather than a digestive one.
So, it is a term often incorrectly used by the layman, to refer to a solar plexus event, but in anatomical terms it is not that at all. So the reference you quoted mentions it as ‘referring’ to the solar plexus, which is badly worded imo.
