I haven't had the time to do more than skim emails the last few days, but had to read this, as my husband had a heart attack last fall...and was given a miriad of drugs thereafter. We argued with the Dr's and got him weaned off of most drugs... and finally got them to take him off of the Statins. My hubby started "speaking out" to his friends and colleagues and found out that many of them were given Lipitor...and were having problems with it.
What we are doing now...EXERCISE, diet change (again!:)) and Psyllium husks (1 T. /twice per day, taken in a little orange juice) In his opinion...and according to blood tests...the Psyllium brought the "bad cholestrol" down to a manageable level....the exercise brings the "good cholestrol" up. In doing so, he is feeling better, with no severe rashes & itching (enuf to keep him awake at night)
I realize that "cholesterol levels" are a controversial subject, as no one seems to really know what's best...but giving a drug to supposedly help cholestrol levels, when it actually seems to be poisoning the people who take it....that's insane!

I had a very *scary* reaction to Lipitor back in 2000. It started the day after I started taking it, with episodes of severe light-headedness. The next day, I got double vision. Eye doctor ran a whole slew of tests on my eyes, and there was no organic explanation for the double vision. Was going to do a brain/eye scan, but I stopped the Lipitor (since that had been the only obvious change in my routine), and voila! The double vision went away within two days.
Allopath who gave me the Lipitor still didn't want to admit it was the Lipitor that caused it. Thought maybe I'd caught "a virus" that caused the symptoms. Yeah right, doc, and about that bridge in Brooklyn.... But I will not take statins ever, ever again.

Suzanne Somers new book, Breakthrough, came out yesterday. It's a
series of interviews with various integrative medical specialists in
a Q&A format.

One interview talked about statins and that the drug mfr. holding the
patent also holds the patent of that statin combined with Co Q10. It
was discussed that they have not released a drug with this combo,
yet, because it would admit liability that they knew of the statin
dangers and how to avoid it and did nothing, opening up a flood of
lawsuits.

Thus, add CoQ-10 if you are taking statins.

My hubby did take CoQ10 when he was taking the Lipitor. No difference. Certainly none to the severe allergic reactions/side effects that he was having. Whether or not it affected cholestrol levels....well, frankly, who cares? This is a poisonous drug!

Yes, the CoQ-10 is *sooooo* important.
Actually, I'd say take the CoQ-10 and just *skip* the statins!
(Instead maybe add cayenne; lecithin; vitamin E; magnesium... There's
a *lot* of info on nutritional fixes for cholesterol!
