Well, it is getting worse and worse - my cat refuses everything!!
except kibbles he **may** eat some raw pieces of beef - when in a good
mood).

For this reason I finally buckled down to comparing kibbles - and I
cannot find much difference between ProPack and Royal Canin, which I
have been feeding. The German sites of Royal Canine give the
ingredients of the specific kinds of their cat food in great detail.

Since I have a good supplier for Royal Canine and ProPac would be
rather a hassle to get, I guess I will stick to the former.

I should, however, be glad of your comment, Irene. Perhaps I have
overlooked something. It is difficulat to compare the additives, since
I cannot find any quantitative listings of them on the ProPac sites.

Since Royal Canin makes so many varieties of dry cat food, I'd need
to know which one you use to give a specific comparison with ProPac
kitten dry food.

However:
Off the cuff, most of the RC foods have corn gluten meal high on the
list - which is plant protein that damages cat kidneys.
Some have wheat gluten as well which is even worse. (Wheat is
irritant to cats).
Kidney failure is the highest cause of death in cats, and poor
protein source is a major reason.

RC also tends to use rosemary extract and marigold extract as
preservatives, both being toxic to cats as well as destroying the gut
environment that cats need for good health as a carnivore (long list
of reasons gut health is critical to carnivores).
Other common RC no-no's include hydrolysed vegetable oil, canola oil,
zeolite, wheat gluten, soy oil, barley, green tea extract, pea fiber,
and whatever else is handy in China to use as filler.
[For example recently RC food was recalled as cats were dying from
melamine added to the food in China under the "corn gluten" and
"wheat gluten" supposed ingredients that RC imports from China. The
Chinese added melamine to make the gluten protein cheaper. It was not
listed as an ingredient.]

That may be a starter checklist for the one you feed?

ProPac is made from all USA ingredients inspected under the "human
food for export" program - except for the varieties with lamb
(mainly in ProPac dogfood) - they get their lamb from New Zealand.
There's no lamb in their kitten food - sheep are too big to be
suitable prey for kittens/cats and the protein amino acid ratios of
lamb are not ideal for cat kidneys.
It's the best commercial food I can find for cats - it's not perfect
of course:-)
