Unless I can make better use of the "worms" rubrics. From what I read,

Okay, here's a procedural question, which is for the moment mostly
academic: When I put in those broad, unadorned rubrics plus the
"roundworms" and "hookworms" rubrics, the first rxs to come up are:
kali-c, sulph, calc, alum, cina, graph, phos, nat-m, mag-c nep, sil,
thuj, iod, petr, bell, ars, lyc, lach, merc...

Or, if I eliminate the ones not listed under both dry hair and
something re worms, there are only: kali-c, sulph, calc, alum, graph,
phos, sil, thuj, bell, chel, sec. Of these calc and graph seem the
most (possibly) similar to his overall state (which is basically a
fragment of his chronic state, plus a few new sxs, minus some of his
particularly characteristic features)... Is there a better way to
proceed? Stool sample will narrow it down, but probably not much
unless he's "lucky" enough to have heartworm, which shows only four
rxs!

I hope your kitty doesn't have heartworm!! That's potentially the most serious of all these possibilities -- likely to be life threatening.
Best way to proceed is probably to take a broad "worms" rubric, then take the most characteristic (least broad and most unusual) new symptom and combine them. If you have 2-3 unusual new symptoms, you should be down to a very few remedies, one of which should resemble the case more than the others upon Materia Medica review. If a new symptom is essentially broad (e.g. weariness or weakness,) narrow it down with its most characteristic modality. The worms are a factor in an "acute," but different individuals are likely to respond differently, giving you, hopefully, a handle on the "constitutional" elements that come forth in response to this particular challenge.
