When we take a case, we often see traits of maismatic disease (eg Syph, Syc, Tub etc) in a generation that has not directly been affected by such diseases as syphilis or tuberculosis. In other words, the infection with the causative agents has made changes in the person to the degree that such traits are passed on to the next generation.
This means that some how their genes and DNA has been affected by the infectious organism.
This is what makes us predisposed or susceptible to further disease and to exhibit symptoms.
The fact that we can then give treatment to such traits shows that we can to a degree treat 'genetic' diseases.
