dry, cracked finger tips

Can anyone help with a remedy for dry, cracked finger tips, especially the thumb. This only happens in winter. I have a cousin who works with cloth as in quilting and finds it difficult and painful during the winter. She can't use greasy topicals as it would stain the material.
This is my first attempt to contact anyone in minutus -- although I have enjoyed reading all the correspondence I get.

Hi Scott,
Skin cracks on the fingers can indicate low zinc levels which often has to do with the sycotic miasm. Finding a good homeopath to prescribe is the best approach, because that should work on the casusation factors. Supplementing with nutrition, like zinc, the healthy oils and other skin nutrients can help the symptoms but not cure the cause.

Scott,

As a bridge while you're cousin is waiting to see a practitioner, use calendula ointment/lotion/gel, overnight on effected areas. Try not to get these finger's wet in the shower/bath until they are healed, which is usually 3-4 days.

Evening primrose oil caps is also very important for the healing process.
Wearing a glove or rubber plugs for protection, will help.

Purely per chance a friend visited me and said she had been to a dietician and they has said that the problem is caused by an imbalance of Omega 3 v Omega 6 - too little Omega 6.
Increase of OMEGA 6 in take resolved the crack in 3 days!
Her mother had the same problem and they tried it on her and her cracks disappeared too.
May be worth investigating as it would be a 'Maintaining cause'.

I would guess it had to do with *specific* omega 6--do you know what
they had her take to rebalance? Had she been previously on a special
diet to increase omega 3s, taking flax oil or etc.?

heavily overburdened with omega 6's. what the
heck was her diet about to create a deficiency
of omega 6?

yes, it would make more sense if the balance was too low in Omega 3 and
too high in 6. It must happen the other way as well, but it's hard to
understand how.

It could be a maintaining cause if the diet was deficient in the
substance. But if the diet provides adequate nutrition and the person
still gets deficiency symptoms which go away when the nutrient is taken
in larger than normal amounts then this is just symptom management and
not resolving a maintaining cause.

How long does the average cracked lip take to clear up without
intervention? I would have thought 3 days to be pretty normal. Nat mur
by the way for a cracked lip - are there others?
