Hot Flushes

Hi,
Would appreciate some rubric suggestions please. The woman has been
suffering hot flushes on the 10 out of 10 scale for quite a while. Her
periods stopped suddenly and she has been having hot flushes ever since.
While she is awake she can almost set her watch by them because they
happen almost hourly. Although a hot person, she prefers warmer weather
because she doesn't need as many clothes or blankets - wearing clothes
and heavy blankets at night aggravate the situation. She does like to
be covered at night - but only by a sheet.
When she goes away on holidays the hot flushes stay at home. She can
even sometimes have a couple of days of menstrual bleeding while she is
away. As soon as she comes back home the hot flushes start again.
Thanks,
Gail

Hi, Gail ...
The strange modality of the hot flushes disappearing when she's away from
hime indicates that there is a deeper meaning to being away than she is
probably aware of, but you need to be looking for that. If she ever dreams,
the general emotional feeling of them might give a useful clue. Where does
she usually go when she's away from home? What's her most common purpose/
activity when she's away? Differences in clothing, food (e.g. she may keep
a strict diet when she's home and eat other things when she's away just
because she can't get the same stuff...or whatever), different animals or
people she's with? What else was going on in her life when the hot flushes
started? (other than menopause -- the hot flushes obviously relate to more
than menopause). Any of these questions and others along similar lines
might give you a little clue to knowing more about the hot flushes (which in
themselves are an extremely common symptom). Do they happen the same round
the clock? If not, what are the variations? Any concomitant symptoms?
Perspiration? Where?
This rubric may be of interest, to merit a glance, at least:
GENERALITIES - TIME - PERIODIC - regular intervals, at - half hour or hour,
every
CUPR.b
China and Chinin-s, of course, are other remedies to look at with specific
periodicity.
Good luck!

PS -- Rereading the start of your e-mail made me think of another rubric that might be helpful -- given the sudden cessation of her menses, replaced immediately by the hot flushes:
FEMALE - PHENOMENA - MENSES - vicarious
acon.k ars.k bapt.k bell.k BROM.kr BRY.k cact.k CALC.k chin.k cimic.k coll.k CROT-H.k cupr.b DIG.k dulc.k erig.bro eupi.bro ferr.mtn graph.b HAM.hr ip.b kali-c.b lach.br mill.k nat-s.bg nux-v.k PHOS.k puls.b sabad.b SANG.k sec.bg SENEC.k sep.k sil.bro sulph.k tril-p.bg ust.k verat.b zinc.k
So it really is important to examine with a magnifying glass what was happening in her life around the time this dramatic change took place.

And also I'd see whether there could be an environmental cause? I
don't know whether there's anything environmental that could cause such
a rapid change, but still maybe worth checking. In the weeks prior to
this change was there any remodeling, new furniture or rugs, appliance,
anything like that?

This is really weird.
As Shannon mentioned, has there been any external factor involved? Like a new cellphone always attached to the waist, a cellphone tower in the vicinity of her house, some other form of EMF pollution? Any similar cases in the neighborhood?
If there is an obvious external cause, first step would be to remove it or control it......obstacle to cure....

Thanks for the input.
When she goes away it is with her family and they go camping, usually
by a river - the return of symptoms can happen as soon as in the car
on the journey home.
The closest I can get to this is that I've heard that Carcinosin is
better when away from home. And there is also the opposite in Coffea
and China - aggravation of symptoms when something good happens.
She says that kinesiology has pinpointed a distressing event that
happened when the menses stopped. She hasn't yet specified exactly
what happened, or how it impacted yet.

Just doing an update on this puzzling hot flushes case. If you remember
she was having hot flushes on the hour with clockwork regularity. When
she went on holidays the hot flushes stopped and her period returned.
She hasn't had a homoeopathic remedy and the flushes have stopped
completely, but the periods have returned.
There are two things to which she attributes this, although she is doing
so many things it is hard to be sure what has helped: 1. She
addressed (with a kinesiologist) a traumatic issue which happened to
coincide with the onset of the menopausal flushes and 2. Taking a New
Zealand Herbal remedy which includes St John's Wort (she'd tried all the
usual menopause herbs without effect). Does anyone know how St John's
would influence the menstrual cycle? The only thing I have found so far
is in Clarke - 'Menses too late' and 'consequences of shock or fright'.
So it pretty much looks like 'menses suppressed' was a pretty key
rubric. And again it shows the importance of questioning what was
happening in the person's life when the problem started.

On a quick reading it sounds as though the holidays had nothing to do with flushes ceasing but the return of the period did.
Hot flushes (though inappropriate) are all about trying to get the ovary to develop and release an egg when it is too tired and old to bother. Once ovulation occurs, the hot flushing will disappear or significantly reduce, only to return following the period as the body once again tries to squeeze one more egg out of an ovary.
Do you think this is what is happening?

Hi Fran,
I don't understand much about menopause, except that there are signs and symptoms, and ways to manage them. The hormone cycle is on my list of complicated things to understand - so any simplified explanations and examples are welcome. What I understand you to be saying is that an excess of the hormones responsible for provoking ovulation are what causes Hot Flushes - so Lutenising Hormone and Follicle Stimulating Hormone.
The holidays seem to be associated with a hormone cycle shift that was otherwise stuck in whatever mode causes the hot flushing. Both then and now she has a period instead of hot flushes.
Processing the trauma/adding St John's Wort provided the same shift so that her cycle has been re-established. I'll check on whether there is any suggestion of the flushes still happening as part of the cycle.
Thanks,
Gail.
