Allergies

Hi List,

I just read in a German Newspeper that afteer a 10 year study
researchers have found: children with dogs in their house develop less
allergies.

Which leads me to the idea that the rise of allergies may be due to
too much hygiene.

Hi, Luise.

Yes, I've seen several research studies also that have reached this same
conclusion -- that one factor in the increase of allergies is too much
sanitation, and that growing up in an environment with animal companions
strengthens the immune system. In a way, this parallels the idea that the
immune system grows stronger if children are allowed to get and recover from
the usual childhood diseases. (I wonder if anyone will ever dare to research
this question in a definitive way?)

Hi Rosemary,
Ardavan's research may throw a light on this by giving a hint to the
question: how many of the chronic diseases are caused by the pathogens
of childhood diseases - or by the diseases themselves.

A report was released in last 2 days on TV here in Australia that said that children who have pets, & children who go to daycare and are allowed to get and have infections have a much reduced incidence of childhood leukaemia esp ALL and that they exposure increases the natural immune status of the children.

I am sorry I didn’t get any references etc there was of course the mandatory follow up with a Dr who did the “vaccination is still necessary and OMG don’t you give it up” blurb!!!
