Dear Tanya, you might recall that I was suggesting Lilium Tig. for your most
recent online case presentation. I was intrigued with the connection between
Egyptology and the Lily and so asked Irina for her ideas about this. I have
to say I only spent a short time on your case but did feel that this Rx was
worth thinking about. What follows is Irina's wonderful notes about Lilies.
Also if anyone is interested in this Rx in general there is an excellent
write up about it + cases by Tunde Barwolf in The Homeopath, No: 58, 1995.
Best wishes, and thanks again to Irina.

Dear Joy ,
Sorry it took me few days to reply your letter , i was trying to collect
more information regarding this flower. Thank you for asking me this
question , actually myself i learned so much more just rereading my and my
grandmother's notes.
This flower from ancient times carries a lot of symbolic meanings . Here are
just few of then which i think you may find interesting .
Lily flower was always symbol of purity , peace and nobility .In ancient
time also used to symbolize fertility of the Earth Goddess. In alchemistry
used to be thought as essence of female principle .
Long before the Greek civilization, lily was known in ancient Persia ( even
the capital was named Suz(y) i - what meant the city of lilies). For that
reason ancient Persian city had emblem with few lily flowers in the center
representing the virgin( untouched) beauty . Also its thought that the
cradle of biblical prophet Moses was under the tiger orange lily among the
high reed.
In Egypt particular this flower was respected as noble symbol of
fertility , instead of lotus that was most common in other religions.
Archeologists found a lot of images of this flower on the Egyptian vases,
papyruses and it was meaning the shortness of life , freedom and hope. Body
of young Egyptian girl if she passed away , was usually covered with lilies
( the mummy of the Egyptian young lady in Louver was found with one flower
on her chest ) . From this flower Egyptians prepared famous in ancient time
flower essence oil -suzinon ( Hippocratis described it in details in his
work " Nature of Women "). Besides if you will look at the black bright
stripes-sports on the bright golden-orange petals of the flower, it will
remind you of the pharaoh large golden crown with wide black stripes
going backwards.
In anciency lily was representing high social position of a person .
Wealthy people in Rome and Greece were decorating themselves, their thrones
and even horse-carriages with it . Image of the lily flower ( as a symbol of
hope) was found on the Roman coins as a hope of poor people for better from
the ruler ( with the words - hope for the people , hope for the tsar , hope
for all the Romans )
In Germany a lot of stories connected to this flower . Long time ago for
German people it meant " message from the person who passed away ". It was
believed that this flower grows itself on the grave under some strange force
and typically appears on graves of those who committed suicide , or who
was murdered . If it grows on a grave of a murdered person it was a sign of
a revenge soon for the murderer ; if lily was found on the grave of a sinner
it meant forgiveness and repentance. At last this flower means " a kind of
message from heaven to the relatives " and some people believe that the
spirit of a person who passed away planted it .
There was no such a place beside France where lily meant so much . Names of
the French monarchy founders ( Ludovick 7, Phillip the 3 and Francis 1) are
connected with this flower . The three golden lilies on the flag . In 496AD
according to the legend the french ruler Hlodvig ( not sure if i spelled
correct) during the battle saw an angel who guided him and brought home
victory . The angle had given him a bright-orange lily flower and that
flower gave strength to the fighters . After that lily became a symbol of
France and the kings power over the church. According to others ancient
stories french people used to say that after that battle the white lily
given by the angel over one night turned bright red-orange .
Another story says that when Christ the Savior was walking in the garden all
the flowers bowed in front of him. Only the lily did not - since it thought
of itself being too proud and too bright to bend , and preferred to stand
straight so the Savior could enjoy the fragrance and its beauty more . When
Christ walked next to lily flower - shadow of his sufferings face
dropped on the lily and lily felt ashamed and blushed . That bright blushed
petals stayed forever . That;s why according to the legend ,the stem orange
tiger lilies not standing straight with the flowers , as if tilted down
especially towards the night time .
In the seventh century lily was selected to be the symbol of France by
Ludovick 7th and all the gardens were planted with this flower . .Phillip
the 3 even used the seal only of three lily flowers , in the times of Carle
the 7th ( 1422-1461) this seal became a nation symbol . French coins
florins had also image of the lily .
In China the meaning of phrase " the golden lily " represents the uglyfied
by the social norms - feet of the Chinese lady ( it was mandatory to place
wooden or stone shoes on the feet of the young girl and this way stop the
growth - it was considered ugly to have big foot ) .Tiny , rectangle-shaped
foot was the ideal of the beauty . Of course when Chinese lady was walking
she could just bounce from side to side . That manner of walking was
considered as tender bouncing of lily flowers on long stem .
sorry for the long letter
respectfully yours ,
