Hi...........................
As there has been always a dilemma about the choice of potency.
I want to know about the selection of potency especially in acute and chronic case.
Does the potency selection matter in the prescription? Some says if the similimum is right one than the remedy will act in any potency.
Please guide in this case where ---
A child is suffering from moderate type of asthma. No any family history of asthma. Only maternal Grand .Mo suffering from diabetes all other family members keeping good health.
There is a H/o Urticarea before the first attack of asthma--- at the age of 1 and half year----- exactly 7-8 mths later she got the first attack of asthma. Since than pediatrician told to parents to give her inhaler daily; but she is getting the attack only during the time of winter season. She catches the cold easily.
Now she is 2 and half yrs old. Disposition -- she is very sensitive and attached to her mother, weeps easily, Afraid of animals and whistle sound of pressure cooker, afraid of being alone in a room, likes to play with small kids, late in talking. she likes sour things very much like curd , buttermilk , milk.
Please guide me in the choice of remedy and potency selection.

Yes. Potency seloection matter the prescription. If the similimum is correct and potency is wrong you cannot get desired results and vice versa. The remedy will work in any potency if the similimum is correct is wrong. Then there is no need of potency selection. In acute cases, if you are sure of the remedy you can give higher potencies but you should see the vitality of the patient. In chronic cases also if the remedy is correct and giving high potency (1M, 10M etc.) at the beginning, there will be severe aggravation which the patient cannot resist. You may refer Hahnamann's Chronic disease Vol. I & II. In acute cases care should be taken while prescribing deep acting remedy otherwise the chronic symptoms appear along with acute symptoms which patient cannot bear the aggravation. Suppression of urticaria will develop asthmatic problems. If the suppression is cleared, the asthma will be easy to clear. But superfulous symptoms which the patient is unable to bear has to be treated first. The modality has not been given in your case. clinging to mother is a common symptom for a 2 yr child, weeps easily leads to Nat. Mur. You may take a full case history to come to a similimum. You can think of asthmatic remedies like Ipec, Anti-tart, Ars. alb etc. But avoid curd, milk etc. which creates phlegm. Anti-tart dose should be given before 6 pm to avoid aggravation during night.
