Reiki in Hospitals

I really do not know how Reiki has become so popular in the Hospitals but my guess is awareness about it - plus patient request - plus it does not do anything other than makes you feel good (so its safe)- it does not interfere with any medical applications,( so its safe) it is based on energy to the cells ( that is still not understood entirely), it makes the Hospital seem progressive :) and can be done by Nurses who are instructed in the method. It does not take a lot of time learning. I am a Reiki practitioner and use the method in my massage practice.
Whow - come to think of it Homeopathy has many of the same characteristics it - except it takes a lot longer to learn. But I know it is all in the public awareness - people heard about it and want it, then it will be sold in the 'Hospital shop' :) There is also a very strong and progressive Reiki organization in place.

massage is also being brought into hospitals.
there is a woman who practices the brennan school
of energy manipulation in a local hospital. in
boston they are using masseuses and may let
licensed naturopaths in.
all these protocols are seen as benign and do not
threaten the power of allopathy. as gisela notes,
they are perceived as 'feel good' therapies.
homeopathy stands alone for its ability to work
so deeply into the core and effect such levels of
cure.
even acupuncture, which is now covered minimally
by insurance, is not seen as threatening to allopathy
as homeopathy.
there seems to be an unforgiving hostility by the
allopathic profession towards homeopathy and chiropractic.
it is absolutely pathological, imo. perhaps it is due to
the tremendous success of homeopathy during its earlier
years compared to allopathy and the fact that the chiro's
successfully sued the allopathic industry. and perhaps
this is more germaine to the usa, but i am doubting it.

Tanya - there is a reason for the "hostility " towards Homeopathy - the credo that Med Doctors all have to swear and abide by states:
WE will not associate or refer patients to any Homeopathic Doctor. Not even go to their office or talk to them.
I do not quote the exact phrase but when the AMA was formed they put a phrase like that in their charter - and to this day Doctors are taught that all other than "scientific medicine" is quackery and cannot be tolerated. Its not their fault - they have been taught wrong - LOL
We need to stop telling people that Homeopathy works better than other treatments. 'Even though we know that it can be the truth' Take the confrontation out by being resilient - Buddah,Ganghi,Jesus and many are teaching - do not confront but offer peaceful resistance and preserverance - that is the operative here in my opinion - even if it makes the blood boil.:) How did we get into this mess - because the AMA got to be so strong that they can influence the Lawmakers. We need to support our organizations and if we feel they do not do the job create another - but its all in the perception. Look what 'sh..' they can sell on TV and people buy it. Even though ads say - you can get headaches, stomach problems, nausea etc from some of the medication but they make it sound as if they have the answer.
It';s not so difficult it takes time, money and an organization. Standardization is not the way - ORGANIZATION is the word.

A LOT longer! If most of us study H for our whole lives, we still have probably just scratched the surface…
I was treated for two-year periods by two well-known homeopaths who were not able to help me because they did not clearly understand miasms--well, that’s how it seems to me; certainly they were not able to help me out of the “profound insomnia” of Bipolar II despite several goes at it!
Now someone has and I believe it is because he DOES understand miasms.
Surely H is a life-long study. Teresa (Northern VA)

I think any profession you want to be good at is a lifelong learning experience. I am a Computer System Engineer by trade and have to get recertified in every new technology that seems to come along. The same with Naturopathy and Homeopathy. I get teased by family and friends because all I read are technical books (that includes the natural sciences) I can’t remember the last time I read a novel. But I don't think we can blame the resistance entirely to homeopathy's
"success";. I think it is also very relevant that homeopathy has had a
sort of "institutionalized" hostility toward non-homeopathy, which
we've often seen illustrated on this list!

Discretion and discrimination are necessary, but hostility isn't
helpful...
And I have to keep reminding myself of that too; have gotten as
frustrated with various "doctor trips" as anyone, and yet "they" are
not solely at fault; we need to be better bridge-builders.

Reiki, Therapeutic massage and even acupuncture are not
pharmacological oriented therapies...and so do not raise the ire of
allopathic physicians as Homeopathy does...in fact they can be
combined the same way with allopathy as any other physiotherapy-

in fact even in Homeopathy these are not frowned upon if any one
practises these -but one should not be an allopathic MD and THAT is
a big mistake- right... since people with allopathy background are
tainted with wrong thinking, scientific background, they cannot
understand holistic thinking and what not- tit for tat

Allopathy and homeopathy are the ones that are competing for
pharmacological treatment space and superiority... and look
seemingly as opposed as light and dark-

Another major factor is Homeopathy coming out of allopathy camp and
the founder was a turn-coat- it is almost a betrayal ( which is what
Hahnemann felt for half- converts - mongrels)

Other treatment modalities have their origins in distant lands -
Homeopathy came out of the same backyard of Western
civilization...and orthodox medicine...

Birds of the same feather fight each other...
I think it is also very relevant that homeopathy has had a
really- I did not see any hostility except for a couple of people -
long back....well "institutionalized hostility is mostly wrong...

Hi Hahnemannian,

Mm, I must be in a poor communications space! Puzzled...

I said:

You replied,

But your entire post up to that illustrates exactly what I was talking
about!
What am I missing?

you mean that we are antagonistic to allopathy? That part I agree
with, I was referring to other therapies not being frowned upon that
much- at least not in an institutionalized way
