i snipped my fingernails off and without knowing it i must have cut the skin.
a couple of days later..it starts getting painful on the side of the
fingernail. almost like a blister underneath the skin. If i bump into
anything..very painful. And when i was holding onto the steering wheel in my
car..it started throbbing from my grip...so i laid it down. Its like a nerve
pain. I don't know if there is an infection in there or what is happening. I
thought of ledum for puncture wounds or hypericum. My problem is that i had
just taken sepia30c for a cough and it helped a great deal. now i'm wondering
if the sepia didn't do something since that can throb..but its looking like my
nail is growing and touching the sore area. Just resting my finger on the
keyboard and it starts to throb. It has occured to me that i'm going to die
from this if i don't find out whats going on. Overly dramatic yes..but my
attention keeps going there. can it be infected from the inside? I need some
medical advice.

why not do a topical, perhaps hypericum.
you might also try soaking it in colloidal silver.
i have neve seen or heard of these topicals interfering
with an internal rx.

Bandaging it with honey might help too--honey can draw out infection,
is antibacterial, and in my experience soothing and healing in general.
Those fingernail thingies can hurt!

another topical anti-inflammatory that i have used in the past
is golden seal root powder which i would make into a paste
and bandage it on. golden seal is such a tremendous herb
for drawing infection. it has gotten some bad rap, but it is
one of those herbs that is close to being a panacea.

i cant recall specifically, but there was something
about it not being safe! i chuck that in the naysayers
dumpster and continue touting its wonders for healing
mucous membranes and drawing infection topically. i also
add it to other herbs to augment their efficacy. it is one
of the few herbs that i do use. even the pharmaceutical
co's use it in eye salves (or at least used to do so).
every good thing can have its opposite impact when misused
and abused, even homeopathy!

Hi carol,

go for the hypericum low-potency (6 or 30) internally or externally. Do any of those other excellent external antibiotic suggestions too.

I will raise hairs by saying: as its an acute & immediate problem, I don't believe it'll interfere with the Sepia.

I think that's what's called paronychia? Wikpedia: "The nail disease
paronychia (commonly known as felon or whitlow) is an often tender
bacterial or fungal infection where the nail and skin meet at the side
or the base of a finger or toenail. It can start suddenly (acute
paronychia) or gradually (chronic paronychia)."

I wonder, too, about her feeling that she "may die from this". That
seems unusual for that type of small injury, doesn't it? If I cross
the collected paronychia rubrics (only a few rxs) with "Delusion, he is
about to die", the shared rxs are: Sil, rhus-t, sulph, sep, petr,
alum, graph, and caust. Silica's the only (3) for paronychia, with
Rhus-t and Suph both (2). And then... Sepia is (2) for
"Delusion, ... die", so not *impossible* it's a proving sx, but I
wouldn't assume that?

(Personally I'd probably try honey and/or golden seal first, but
wouldn't feel bad about taking silica for it, or another if better
indicated (foods? temps?). Just my opinion...)

Nail diseases

The nail is a horny structure, which is composed of keratin and is formed over ending surface of each finger of hands and feet. The external and exposed part of the nail is the "body", the white part at the root of nail is called the "luna"; nail matrix is the foundation substance in which the tissue cells are embedded, i.e. , the growing root of the nail is embedded. The growing nail slides forward over the nail bed (area under horny nail). There are folds of skin on either side of the nail called nail walls.

Some nail diseases occur due to anaemia, calcium deficiency, iron deficiency and deficiencies of various salts ( i.e. , calcium carbonate, calcium phosphate) and keratin (a fibrous protein that forms the horny tissues of the body, i.e. , nails, etc.). The common nail affections are listed as under with cures :

Blueness of the nails :

Such colour of nails takes place during fainting collapse, low blood pressure, diarrhoea and vomiting.

A lady, S. Jain, 31 years old, was suffering from an abscess over finger end near the nail and pulp of the finger tip of left hand. She had great thirst, burning heat in the whitlow, better by cold wet poultice. She had small pimply eruption around the affected finger. The whole finger was very painful and sore to touch. She had white- coated tongue, bitter taste, constipation.

Antimonium crud 30 morning and evening, Natrum mur 30 after meals and FP6X, KM3X, CS3X, KS3X, Sil 12X after 30 minutes of Natrum mur. A wet strip of cloth was wrapped around the abscess. Patient was cured before 20.4.1988.

Case no. 590

A lady, 45 years of age, had felon which affected the pulp in the pointing finger of right hand with burning, throbbing, stinging, pricking pains, better from cold wet application.

Apis 30 in alternation with FP6X, KM3X, KS3X, CS3X, NS3X, after every 4 hours cured her within 6 days.

A boy, 15 years old, had whitlow on middle finger of right hand, near the pulp, with burning pain, better by cold wet poultice. He had great thirst, fever, and constipation.

Bryonia 30 in alternation with FP6X, KM3X, KS3X, CS3X, NS3X 4 grains in hot water after every 3-4 hours cured the patient within 4 days.

A boy, 15 years of age, had ulcerated whitlow on middle finger with suppuration extending to whole of the finger. There was swelling, burning pain, better by hot fomentation. He had frequent thirst, but drank a little water every time. It was cold season.

Arsenicum alb 30 in alternation with CP3X, CS3X, NS3X, Sil 12X after every 2-3 hours and then Hepar sul 200 one dose cured him completely.

The other case of ulcerated whitlow with above symptoms was cured with Hepar sul 30 in alternation with the said biochemic salts after every 3-4 hours, and Silicia 200, 2 doses at end (after every 8 hours) cured the patient within 5 days.

28.4.1987

A lady, S. Gupta, 30 years had swelling and suppuration of nail of right thumb which was extending and a white sticky pus was oozing out from root of the nail. She had great thirst, hunger and constipation, and pimples over cheeks.

Graphites 30 in alternation with CP3X, CS3X, NS3X, Sil 12X after every 3 hours cured the patient within 4 days.

A lady, 32 years old, had infection of nails at root with swelling and suppuration in right hand. Sticky oozing when pressed. She had constipation and haemorrhoids, much thirst and hunger.

A young boy of 18 years had some infection in the nail walls with swelling and cracks, worse in winter season, and scaling of skin around the nails.

A very sensitive, timid girl, 18 years old, had hangnail. The skin around the nail was cracked and dry. She had loose motions from fats and milk, worse from warmth of the sun, liked cool open air.
