Dear All,
Can any one shed any light on methods to contain a case of AML, especially to reduce the percentage of blast cells.
Looking forward to your posts.

How about prescribing on the relevant totality of the patient?

There is very less symptoms. The case is a 60 year old lady having
reduced platelet count for the last two years with having steroid for
it and diagnosed with AML only a few weeks back.
I don't want to start am argument (and I apologize for any feelings
hurt) but still what I asked was anything other than in the line of
totality.

I realize some people don't "like" this approach, but one I was taught
is the "constitutional" in the sense of, the remedy that covers what is
characteristic to the *patient*, not to the illness; so it's still
totality, but would not be dependent on signs and symptoms of the
disease itself.

In talking about difficulty in treating (potential incurability of)
"end stage" diseases such as cancer, Kent said that the difficulty was
not that the patient's "constitutional remedy" (and I think that's the
term he used in the essay) would not cure, but rather that it would be
very hard to find, since by the time the disease has progressed so far
much that is/was individual to the patient has been suppressed by the
disease. Is that part of what people here disapprove of about Kent?
:-/ As I learned it that is where the value of "lesional" prescribing
comes in (which is what "pathology only" prescribing would be, right?).
But if the earlier and fuller case picture is still present and/or
remembered, it could do the job?
Just a thought...

Dr.Gafar-
Even though I have never had any AML treatment background - my view is
still there should be symptoms / signs that could be used.

For example - how was / for what was the reduced platelet count
diagnosed? Problem with bleeding etc? What type was it- Idiopathic (
considering steroids were given) or was there any element of AML
before hand?

What happened 2- 3 years back? Past history? Menstrual history-
other diseases of the past etc. invariably will throw some light on
her symptoms.

Also whether homeopathy can be effective against AML is no question at
all. You know well that irrespective of others past experiences can
tell us , giving the actual indicated remedy is the best way to find
out its effectiveness.

More in line with the question, and at risk of starting again a flaming war, Arsenic has in the last few years been shown in conventional medicine as being effective in very low doses in different forms of leukemia..........surprise, surprise........It has also been used as a homeopathic treatment in patients with leukemia, so here is one possible lead, Ars Alb, in potency or also a possibility is within the Ramakrishnan protocol.

Hi Shannon,
How does it differ from what Irene calls "constitutional remedy"?
Well, I was a rabid Kentian during the time I practiced and to a
degree still am. But I, or rather the homeopath I learned most from
(who also was), did not seem to interprete Kent's teaching the way you
expressed it above - or I misunderstand what you said.

I read his MM to tatters - and actually it is full of symptoms of
disease. So to me it always appeared that he meant the Hahnemannian
way of "the way the disease - although perhaps not named - shows up in
the individual patient.

He did also at times name the disease. I remember off hand one case he
described, where in "diphtheria" he waited on and on, until in the end
he saw just a little typically tough mucous in the throat - and on
that he prescribed kali bi.

Also, in the his "clinical cases" I cannot see where he prescribed
differently. It seems to me he described on the totality of symptoms
of illness of a patient, with characteristics of the patient thrown
in where they seem relevant. Is that what you mean?

Regards

Luise
As I learned it that is

To all,
Thanx for the help.
Let me update you on the case. Due to the urgency of the situation I
did a repertory on the few available symptoms and already prescribed.
The remedy is none other than Ars. alb!
I will update as and when any news are there.
Please see that still I am keen to have any helping hands.

Dear Dr. Gafar
I would like to offer a little more on this topic of AML from Dr. Ramakrishnan’s protocols.
He recommends from page 10 of his book ...”Hekla lava as the principal remedy for cancers (both primary and secondary) of the bones: sarcomas, osteoclastomas, myelomas, Ewings’s sarcomas and of other bony growths. It is also invaluable in both acute and chronic myelogenous leukemias....”
Symphytum plays a secondary role in these cancers.
