Nux-v w/o irritability?

I'm wondering whether anyone wants to weigh in regarding whether they
would prescribe (or better, have prescribed) nux-v for chronic issues
(oversensitive, difficulties with concentration, poor stamina,
bruising, over-sympathetic--and phos does not work) in a person who
reports "never" being angry or irritable? Actually she did say that
sometimes she feels "out of sorts", or "like things just don't fit
right" ("wrong, everything is"??), but at those times she withdraws
until she feels better. She would get weepy rather than angry. I have
been passing over even considering nux-v because of the complete lack
of irritability or anger, but am suddenly realizing that it seems to
suit other things really well. Thoughts?
Thanks!
Shannon

Short answer - yes - I've used Nux V on good symptom match with NO irritability or anger in the picture - with excellent results.
Long answer - Very early on I met a 'practitioner' that prescribed only on the key notes. She required that all of the key notes be present before she would prescribe a particular remedy. She taught a study group and required memorization of key notes and cases were analysed on key notes (and she had some really 'interesting' interpretations of things). That was my second introduction to the practice of homeopathy - and the second time I went running in the opposite direction. Only the basics of the Organon kept drawing me back to homeopathy. It was not until much later that I met some spectacular practitioners/instructors that I finally stayed with homeopathy. I learned well that those keynotes are wonderful start points but can be very misleading and limiting. My best instructor taught to focus on the keynotes as guides to reducing the reading load (unless you can afford to read 40+ hours for each case) - but that once you had your top list - to throw the keynotes out the window. I am constantly greatful for that advice since I have used Nux, Phos, Sulph (and a few others) on cases that were not consistant with the keynotes - with spectacular results. Of course, there is the argument that a good polycrest will help everyone at some point. Not sure if I'm ready to go that route - but it is an interesting argument.

I did once.
Worked well for some time and was based on physical symptoms only, in a very gentle huge bear-like friend of mine, and I kept wondering the same thing, until the coin fell down.
We were both practicing Aikido, high level; this type of martial arts is very soothing and quietening for the mind, as you have control over everything and do not have to prove anything to anybody any more............so I asked him if deep down, or previously, before Aikido, he was of a violent temperament. His answer: "how did you know that?
Cultural, philosophical, mental practices can modify our instinctive reactions to the point we do not remember them unless reminded of or exposed to very stressful situations in which our real constitution/personality will emerge again.
I can see that on myself very frequently.
Since that case I learned to prod even deeper..........

Many a time- Lots of times the irritability of Nux vomica is
socially modified and "compensated". In acute situations it comes
out...

I have successfully presribed Nux vomica in a case of Diabetes
Mellitus based on other symptoms ( the patient is a very mild person
normally); the same with another case of "pain in legs" and
headache - NV 200 1 dose ( caused aggravation the very next day for
about 24 hours ) and then cured completely- patient was not
irritable or anything...

Keynotes are excellent prescribing tools. Dr.Koppikar, the doyen of homeopaths in Chennai, India is an excellent keynote prescriber. He knows Allen so very well and has interleaved the work with his observations etc.

Keynotes work well in most of the acute conditions- the trick is not just in using them for the presenting complaints but for concomitants...

Or if the presenting symptom itself has a keynote pointer then the concomitant symptom also needs to point to that same remedy-

As in all methods of finding the remedy ( other than using synthetic and "innovative imagining" using periodic tables and some such where fuller materia medica is not available for the drugs imagined ) the selection using key notes still must be verified using a standard - non-key note - materia medica...

This is like searching for a person in the phone directory using last name...you get a bunch of remedies , then use the address, first name etc. for confirming the selection...

Going directly from key note to prescription - is a prescription for disaster

Interesting, thank you!!
What about the possibility of having something like spaciness (e.g. I
see it in *many* rubrics such as Confusion; As if in a dream;
Abstraction of mind; Absent-minded; Daydreaming; Delusion will become
insane...) *instead of* irritability, with (so far as I've heard)
*never* any sign of irritability?

I've noticed before, but somehow not focused on, how *very* many
phosphorus-like rubrics it comes up in! Sympathy, benevolence, overly
generous, desire for company (and aversion), cheerfulness, ecstasy,
can't support injustice; also lots of "sensitivity" rubrics. *None* of
that is what I've tended to think of in connection with nux-v! (Well,
"sensitive", but more in the sense of "physical irritability")

Roger Morrison's summary, e.g., is: IRRITABLE, IMPATIENT, AMBITIOUS
AND DRIVEN PATIENTS; Easily offended..." That is the picture that I
have primarily learned. Starting from there, I guess I've assumed that
the "sensitivity" was a result of the irritability, ambition, jealousy,
aggressiveness, desire to achieve, etc. But where do all of the other
things fit in with all *that*? Where does that fit with affectionate,
too generous, awkward, and all that other above?

So what's really *central* to this remedy?
Brain's shutting down, gotta go to sleep... But I'll have to chew on
this...

Great, thank you!
And there it is, a "2" under Mildness.
Rats, I think my understanding of nux-v needs a LOT of help...
Well, would you--and anyone--have a sense of what might be more central
to the M/E picture of nux-v than ambition, jealousy, etc.? It seems
unlikely that this whole truckload of phos-like stuff is nothing but
"socially modified and 'compensated'" behavior...

Competitiveness?

For example (If I remember rightly!) - Dr Roz's friend not only competes
but does so in martial arts areas - something that requires hard work -
which Nux will do to compete well?

But we need not see all the familiar rubrics of a well known remedy to
find a good simillimum: As long as what the patient has, is present in
the rubrics of the remedy, it's a match.

I've had a couple of odd-seeing successes with remedies used due to
matching rubrics well - where the matching rubrics are only ones other
than the keynote ones. So I try not to be too prejudiced in favour of
seeing keynotes or "central pictures".
Just feels more comfortable to see them:-) Doesn't necessarily work
better.

since I do not subscribe to the central core symptom approach I cannot
say much- I would rather take the case and see where it leads -
mentally or otherwise...

I have seen all variations in mentals that are so different from whate
we know of remedies in our 1 sentence understanding of remedies that
I would not select or throw away a medicine based on just mental symptom

Hi Shannon,
?

Perhpas remedies are like the surface of a globe - any poijnt can be
considered the center and any area around it central.

On the globe it depends on the mind of who is determining - China to
the Chinese has always been the Center, I am sure to US Americans the
USA are etc.

Someone should compile the "essences" of a remedy as to the various
homeopaths working that way and see how far they correspond:-)
