English is not my mother tongue, and I would like some clarification please.
"Sick headache": am I correct to this as headache with nausea and vomiting, or is there anything more to that?

I don't think you'll find it is a 'universal' single description even with native English speakers. When someone uses that term I try to get them to give me more explanation. Overall I have seen it used for:
a. headache with nausea
b. headache with nausea and vomiting
c. headache with body ache - an overall 'sick' feeling where the headache is the symptom that seems to have started the cascade of symptoms
d headache that is severe enough that you go to bed and can not 'function'
e. headache that persists over a long period and prevents normal activities
I have also had people use it and then explain they said 'sick' headache because it was not a sinus headache - it was not a tension headache - etc - so they were using the term 'sick heachache' to indicate that it was intense but something 'else' - something they did not normally have.

Thank you, I have my information........and will keep asking what the patient mean; yet it is annoying to find this kind of notion in Materia Medicas without a word of explanation..........

I think the term is archaic. The definitions vary so greatly, I would not want to define it very narrowly.

If you look through the ER in Radar, there are many references to sick headaches with GI tract sx including constipation. But not all, including the following example.

Has been used chiefly in neuralgic and congestive headaches with foregoing symptoms. Considered invaluable in so - called "sick headache." Nosebleed relieving the headache is very characteristic. Has cured religious melancholia, with very red face, etc. Hypochondriasis. Congestion and inflammation of the lungs. Infantile spasms during dentition with great congestion of the head; especially in nervous children. Puerperal eclampsia.

Also I found several references for sick headaches or migraines, so I assume they are not the same.

Here is Dewey's definition: (Practical Homeopathic Therapeutics)

What is the characteristic sick headache?
Sensation as if the bones of the head were crushed or bruised; there is an unilateral sick headache over one eye, with deathly nausea and very pale face; there is a drawn, nauseated expression about the mouth.
In a violent congestive headache, where it seems as if the brain would burst through the forehead with throbbing almost as violent as under Glonoine ; sick headache relieved by nose bleed.
Periodical sick headache, especially of students or teachers; pains intense, throbbing and supra-orbital, causing temporary blindness; at height of headaches bitter or sour vomiting; hemicrania, commencing with blurring of vision.
Genuine sick headache calls for this drug, and the symptoms in brief are these : The pain begins in the morning and in the occiput; it comes up over the head and settles in the right eye. The pain increases in severity until there is vomiting of food and bile, then oftentimes the ache is relieved. Noise and light are unbearable, and sleep relieves. The pain will be so intense at times that the patient will frantically bore her head into the pillow for relief. It is especially suitable to women who menstruate too freely.

Farrington:
Clinically, ーthe sick headache begins in the occiput and spreads over the head, agg. over right eye.

Hi JROZ,
Yes - but perhaps it had a more definite meaning at the time the MMs
were commpiled.

If you give me an example in (if possible) the MM pura or the MM of CD
I can try to find out the German expression. It may be more definite.
(I have to ask others, since I myself only have the English versions,
but that should be no problem)

Or perhaps one of the Germna readers who do have the German original
version could pitch in here?

The English MM repeatedly speaks of the '"American" Sick Headache.' American is always in quotes. It looks to me like a popular expression used at that time not a medical term.

Kent gives an explanation of "sick headache" under Eupatorium:
Pain in the base of the brain and back of the head, associated with gouty joints. These are often referred to as arthritic headaches, that is, gouty headaches, headaches associated wtih painful joints. Or the headaches may alternate with pains in the joints. Congestive headaches, the pain being in the base of the brain, with more or less throbbing; the pain spreads up through the head and produces a general congestive attack. Sometimes these headaches come on when the joints are feeling better, and the more headache he has the less pain he has in the extremities; and again, when the gout affects the extremities, then the headaches diminish. Headaches, having a third and seventh-day aggravation, coming with more or less periodicity. With the headaches there will be nausea and vomiting of bile, nausea at the thought and smell of food. This gouty individual is also subject to vertigo, and the sensation as if he would fall to the left. Sometimes in intermittent fever this symptom of swaying to the left and vertigo ending in nausea and vomiting, violent pain in the back of the head and pain in the bones, are the first threatenings.
I love reading Kent's MM as he gives these gems in the strangest places - sometimes just in the middle of some remedy where you would never know to find it!
