Hello all,
I am new to the group and studying to become a naturopathic doctor. I have
a problem, my naturopath is hardly ever around the area, and I need some
relief now. I am suffering from some pretty nasty allergies right now. I
can't figure out what is bothering me so much though. That is what I am
trying to figure out now. I was writing this with the hopes that someone
could suggest a remedy to me. I was thinking Pulsatilla but I would like to
see what someone with more experience has to say. These are my symptoms:
congestion alternates between nostrils
nostril shuts off tight like a clamp, no air can get through
worse at night
worse when lying or sitting down
worse around smoke
congestion seems to worsen with exposure to heat
better when outside and standing up
I seem to crave dairy lately
frustration of not being able to breathe makes me weepy

I hope someone can help me, because this is driving me INSANE!!!!

Morrison also gives a hierarchy of allopathic medications if you are in
need:
1) nasal cromolyn inhalers
2) antihistamines

Thank you for the information. Let me be a little more thorough.
Here again are my symptoms:
conjestion in the nose with alternates between nostrils
feels like the nostril has closed tightly like a clamp, and no air
can get through
sneezing makes the conjestion worse
the discharge from my nostrils is clear and watery, large amounts
especially when sneezing
there is alot of saliva when I sneeze too, but that might be because
I sneeze with the mouth open
The condition is worse in my room at night
Worse when lying down and sitting
Condition also worsens in a smoky atmosphere
Better when standing upright and outside
I have been craving milk alot, and have been drinking more then
usually, I guess it is sort of comforting to me
I get frustrated when I can't breathe through my nose, I almost want
to cut my nose off. I also get a little weepy at this. Just because
I want to be able to breathe better.
My parents don't seem to be particulary helpful with my condition,
this is also frustrating. I don't understand why I am having so many
problems and they aren't.
From others I desire understanding and comfort. But I also want to
be left alone at times.
At night when I can't sleep I go out to the kitchen to eat, I crave
sweet things and this makes me feel a little better, then after that
I usually go back to bed and fall asleep for the rest of the night.
I also had chronic ear infections as a kid, and still get them from
time to time.
I was placed on lot of antibiotics as a child.
I also have psoriasis, the common form whitish plaque and redness,
with eczema behind the ears at time.
I feel the psoriasis is worsened with stress and poor diet.

As far as what I have tried,
I am currently working with my diet, changing my eating habits to a
more macrobiotic outlook.
For my nasal conjestion, I have tried taking an infusion of equal
parts Peppermint, Eyebright, and Chamomile.

My condition seems to start whenever I am at home away from school, I
would say that every time I am home from college I get allergies.
And it is most definately worse at night.

i thank you for your honesty. a bit about me - i have just graduated from
LCCH (London college of classical homoeopathy) affiliated with West Minster
university - with a BSc(Honours) degree in Homoeopathy and Licensed through
LCCH & Society of Homeopaths (after 3 years of full time study)- my most
influencial teacher was Sheilagh Creasy = and I am classically trained = one
remedy prescribed at a time working with the totality of symptoms - etc =
classical hahnemann/kentian style. I have time tonight to look at your case
and do my best to treat you acutely = as you are in distress and in need at
the moment = frustration is no way to spend the days/nights....

as a recent graduate - i take a bit more time in my cases to double check

Try not to get too discouraged - think also why it is that you get these
allergies when home from college (causation is the deep key to understanding
our reactions)

Dear Aaron,
This isn't homeopathy, but it might help. Try getting off the dairy
products. In many people they can cause a lot of congestion and symptoms
like you describe.

a few remedies have come through -
pulsatilla comes through for you mental, frustrated with weeeping,
alternation of sides, sneezing , - they have a lot of fluent, bland water
discharge from nose & eyes. hay fever especially in spring or heat of
summer/autumn.

Nux Vomica came through quite strongly - has a stuffed, irritated nose that
becomes fluent in a warm room, fluent coryza in morning and day - horrible
dry obstruction at night in bed, also terrible sneezing in am.

Both these can be acute or chronic prescription according to morrison.

some other small remedies that came through are am-c and bor
ammonium carbonicum - dry nasal abstruction worse at night in bed
they do have acrid coryza though, and sneezing at night and in am on waking.

a small remedy for acute that is greatly indicated by your specifics is
sinapis nigra - coryza alternate sides, sneezing and obstruction worse at
night when lying in bed, fluent coryza alternates with dry hot nasal
obstruction.

i know lots to decide but it is difficult to go by words on paper and not to
see you or know your history. but if you can look these remedies up in any
Materia medica and see which one rings true to you - you are the one who
knows this state the best.

i have asthma and i have found that when i have an acute attack i use the LM
potency taken in stead of my inhaler and it works wonderfully. you can take
more doses - just make sure you succuss it each time.

let me know how you are doing i hope this helps - its such a difference
