Hi all,

I just witnessed a lovely little phenomena.... and I'll use it in teaching my students in the future.

In our humble pharmacy, we are preparing a large quantity of remedy ordered by a particular NGO for their group.

It's the first time we've prepared such a large quantity using large "size30" globules. And so today I used a flat tray (12 inch pie pan) to do the process of medicating the globs. Usually we use tinier "size20" globs in a cup, so I've never seen this phenomena. Well, now the tray is very full -several layers deep- of "size30" globs. So after pouring the medicated alcohol in I shook the tray side to side to distribute the medicine. Lo and behold! the "random" globules all lined themselves up in neat beehive rows. So I played around (ummm... "experimented") and "stirred" it with a clean pipette. Lo again! the globs went "random".

What a nice little exercise to demonstrate succussion.

I suppose this exercise isn't anything new to some of you, but now I have a way of demonstrating the value of "succussion" to my students.
