Traveling with 10 week old pup next week (in cabin air travel approx 3 hours). My old dog was very good traveler and never had any problems - seemed to find all of the noises of travel to be a lullaby. New pup is highly reactive to noises - travels well in his Sherpa bag, but cries wildly once the engine starts (thus far he has only traveled in cars). No indication of motion sickness. He is also startled with noises - particularly motorcycles in the neighborhood. I have given him chamomilla for teething (2 doses of 30c) - which settled him somewhat and within 24 hours the teeth appeared to be fully 'in' - but definatly does not approach the noise problems. The reactivity is immediate and startling - but does not appear to be generating great fright - he is not quaking in a corner - and as soon as the noise is over - he continues play.

Phos physical/other characteristics that may be handy:

Long legs, (tall looking) fine fur that has wispy ends and tends to have
some fur longer and sticking out more, especially the tail. Not an
enormously long tail but the relatively long fur can make it seem quite
long. Bright eyes (sparkling). Phos limbs are not heavily built, but are
strong, phos has good balance and good jumping ability, lands lightly
after a jump - generally light on their feet even if quite big animals.
Head is quite big, but nice lines. Chest is a nice volume quite deep but
average breadth. Hips are good size not too broad and not narrow.
They walk in a jaunty way as if trotting, and those with long fur
can have the fur flop up and down as they walk. They lie ready to go,
usually paws stretched forward. An oddity is: Anus on a Phos looks open.
Social butterfly types that need to know who is doing what where, and
chat about it - ready to greet all and sundry and wonder what they are
all about too.
Constitutional type can be seen at birth so don't worry about age.
Interesting but I'd not agree. I have a Puls cat who chases her tail
even at age 10, (looks very funny as she's such a heavy-built cat and
the Puls tail like the Phos one is average length), and I had a Lach
cat who chased hers as a kitten (easy to do as Lach has ridiculously
long tails and shorter body) and I have/had two phos cats who never did
chase theirs - far too interested in everyone else's business I suspect
Constitutional type remedy - plus Bach remedy - plus a mini-duvet to cut
the sound and to snuggle in to hide from the noise (ear plug substitute,
though if this is Phos they can't hide in anything too long, it excludes
what's going on in the world and they have to know.....) :
Bach suggestion: Rescue remedy, Aspen, Mimulus, Impatiens, Elm.

Thank you for your prompt response.
I agree, I've met plenty of those - but in this case the fellow had substantial training.
Perhaps it can be readily judged by someone experienced - and particularly if you see the individuals in context of their parents and siblings - but in my case - I haven't been around young puppies in 15 years. The variation in energy, activities, even attitude are still changing so rapidly.
In using a constitutional remedy (Phos) - how would you dose? Prior to leaving for the airport? We are dealing with a high energy pup who weighs less than 2 pounds - do you suggest 6c or higher? I am planning to take him for a drive each day prior to flight day to see if I can help him become comfortable with the car noises - would you dose prior to or during those trips? I am very familiar with using the Bach remedies - but again - what would your recommendation be for dosing/application?

A quick two-cents re dosing, in my own (limited but consistent)
experience with animals and infants, there same dosing rules seem to
apply apply as with adults. It works well to put the dose into their
drinking water (a pellet, let stand a bit, stir a bit, and let them
take it when and as they are ready; if a single high-potency dose,
remove and change the water once they've gotten some).

For potency, again same rules. So for your little guy I (personally)
would feel comfortable giving anything in the 30-200-1M range; tho a
low potency might also be effective, tho shorter-acting. If you give a
high potency, you can also use low potency doses (e.g. 6 or 12c) if
needed for times of extra stress (e.g. the trip itself), tho usually it
would not be needed. And of course, occasional 6 or 12 or 30c doses
might be all that he needs anyway. Since the remedy seems a reasonable
choice, I would not worry about experimenting with it!

Those are the types of dosing I would have comfortably done with my former (adult) companion - but I was concerned about my inexperience with such a tiny pup. Thanks for the reassurance. Think I may need the remedy more - since they have recently started kicking off passengers with noisy children - can't imagine how they would react to a crying pup - just one more stress added to the mix during travel.

start 2 weeks before the trip - otherwise you need more doses. I see
each dose as a trigger - and when there are enough triggers there will
be response. Phos is usually fairly responsive.

Argentum nitricum – anxious, excitable, claustrophobic during travel; also dizziness, nausea, vomiting.

Give 6C water potency for 3 -4 days before travel.
