One thing I am conscious of is that the principles Hahnemann laid down
came after a lifetime of experimentation and development - Homeopathy
was his baby - he lived, breathed, ate and slept with it.

We come to homeopathy as outsiders - without the intimate working
knowledge and experiences he had. We were not there through all the
trial and error stages of development to reap the deeper understanding
that these bring. We are just the inheritors of the end product
without the first-hand knowledge of the complexities within the system
that he had to explore and balance.

I do not think anyone today can claim to have the intimate knowledge
and experience of homeopathy that Hahnemann had. For this reason we
should be careful of easily dismissing what the old man said or of
replacing it with our own advances. All too often it is just a case of
reinventing the wheel and not doing it as well, especially if seasoned
practitioners say in the face of these "advances" that the standard
principles still work just fine.

This is not new. Homeopathy has always interspersed treatment with
acute, miasmatic, intercurrent, nosodal, and palliative remedies as
needed. To start using them in combination is not a step forward - one
loses the ability to analyse the response to the prescription and to
plot the way forward and the mark of a well grounded and experienced
homeopath.

I treat both animals and humans. I can understand your desire to treat
animals in the manner you describe because we are limited in what they
can report back to us. To transfer this same method to humans is a
step backwards as it introduces another variable into case management
that can confuse rather than clarify treatment. Simple rather than
complex is still best.
