I am hoping someone can help – I have a pt who gave the symptom that her urine smelt like grass – fresh mown grass

I know I have seen / heard this as a rubric somewhere ???? but cannot find it ?? It is such a characteristic particular I would really like to use it. She is having trouble with chronic cystitis that keeps flaring every now and then and tho I have had results with a couple of remedies nothing seems to hold for longer than a month or so. This is the first time she’s been able to give me more than relatively general symptoms for cystitis and I am hoping that this may differentiate the similimum.
If you find the rubric could you also give the remedies in case it’s from a source I don’t have. Many thanks in advance Pauline

Ask her if she has been eating asparagus as my urine smells strongly like that immediately after eating this vegetable.

Hi Rochelle, thanks for your reply – no she hasn’t eaten anything like that – that was the first thing I asked – it has only had this smell since she started to get irritation at meatus at close of micturation again yesterday. This seems to recur worst at menses. She has really only gotten the hang of observing symptoms and signs for me recently and says it was only today she could finally put a name to the smell – it has been there before with the same symptoms – but she didn’t think it was impt to her at the time and couldn’t recall it to try and name later.

Hi Pauline,

descriptions can be quite narrow, so perhaps your patient is able to
expand the description.

Urine smell like grass or hay isn't listed in the Reps, to my
knowledge).

Some hints:
- Diabetes mellitus: fruity/acetony odor
- Ketonuria: overripe apples
- pungent, grass like: after asparagus
- Pseudomonas infection: fruity odour, pleasant (often turns the urine
colour into green)

Depending of an underlying disase thsi will probably influence your
remedy choice, so have a closer look at conventional books on
Urinanalyses as well (and ideally check the odor of the urine by
yourself, if possible).

specific urinary odours are just 'conventional medical knowledge' (or
should be), as it is the oldest diagnostic tool (probably used for 2500
years).

Physiology teaches about urine colour, odour, specific weight ec. under
normal conditions. It also gives hints how, e.g. certain nutrients may
change the colour.
The change of urine characteristics in pathological situations should be
part of every practician's knowledge (whoever is treating diseases, be
it homoeopath or other).
Sugar in urine e.g. of course is a hint for diabetes. In ancient times
urinanalyses were done in a very precise way (smell, taste, density,
colour - just a very thorough inspection), as the excretions of the body
could often point to certain and specific diseases or to symptom
complexes beyond renal disturbances.

Every book about laboratory diagnosis has hints about it.
