Greetings all,
Recently at a members' global meeting of AMURT (Ananda Marga Universal Relief Team; >), an international emergency relief organization, and in view of the commendable work done by some independent homeopath relief groups in the 2005 tsunami and in Lebanon 2006-7, a few of us are inspired to become better prepared for disaster relief and emergency readiness.
Didi Ananda Rucira of the Abha Light Foundation, Kenya in partership with AMURT is taking the initiative to put together a Global Alternative Medical Emergency Readiness & Response Unit database and discussion list. Your interest or participation in this effort is welcome.
Why an Alternative Medicine Unit?
Complementary and Alternative Medicines (CAM) such Homeopathy, TCM, Naturopathy, Traditional herbal medicine and other similar practices have unique qualities that make them very suitable for emergency and catastrophe relief. CAM has the advantage of being able to set up and function efficiently with little more than a suitcase of medicines.
Advantages of CAM for Relief Work
» It's effective in acute, traumatic, epidemic and endemic diseases.
CAM is effective in typhoid, malaria, cholera, dysentery
and other such epidemic & endemic diseases that may
be found in relief situations
» It can be implemented in situations with very little infrastructure.
CAM doesn't depend on x-rays, diagnositc labs, etc.
Clinics can be set up easily under a tree or in a tent.
» In places where a allopathic doctor is unavailable, a simple kit is a lifeline.
Most CAMs can pack sufficient medicines simply in
a single knapsack or briefcase.
» It's safe and free of side effects so can be used at all levels of treatment.
What will this unit do?
we will organize ourselves-
to collect a database of resources & network with other emergency relief organizations
to collect a database of potential volunteers
to set up a discussion for participants to organize & share resources & technical information
to be ready-on-call as volunteers or give technical support in a global or large-scale emergency or catastrophe
Who can join?
Any practitioner of homeopathy, TCM, ayurveda, herbal medicine, naturopathy, midwifery, etc.
Any active non-practitioner who wishes to contribute information and resources
We are "without borders" and all are welcome.
Does it cost anything?
Only your dedication, time and knowledge
