Hello Irene and everyone.

Sorry, I thought I had included the part of the post that confused me. The discussion was about a puncture wound healing, But someone (sorry, bad with memory) was discussing I believe calandula and the puncture wound closing over the infection. I have read of some remedies that should not be used when infection is present, because this could cause the wound to close over the infection. Scary. I hope I didn't cause too much confusion, thank you Irene, and Namaste to you also.

Ah - hi Carol, Thanks for writing back with an explanation.



Oh - that is a common story - it is just due to misunderstanding.
Calendula is a great remedy to use to heal wounds in the skin. Some have
reported problems with infection becasue they stop the calendula when
the skin is closed, instead of continuing it till the inside is also healed.
It is natural for the body to heal any wound on the surface first
before healing the inside - it's a mechanism to help prevent getting
more dirt in a wound, and for protecting the inside of the body.
Using Calendula will speed healing and thus will speed this process,
in which external skin heals first.
My own approach - and many others use it too - is to use Calendula
externally on open wounds BUT to ALSO use it by mouth until the wound is
completely healed internally as well.
So the mistake or risk is not in using a wrong remedy - it is in
stopping the remedy before it is healed internally.

The external use of calendula in a *puncture* wound seems redundant to
me except to handle local discomfort. Puncture wounds do not need to be
closed - they are already closed, as a puncture is a deep wound and the
soft body tissue closes after the item causing the wound is withdrawn.
But I would use it by mouth till the entire wound is fully healed -
and would not stop using it after the outside of the wound is closed -
only when I know for sure the inside is healed, and no longer at risk of
infection - as calendula prevents infection (and heals it is if present
- just do not stop using it before ALL the damaged tissue is replaced
with healthy tissue).

Yes that does help a LOT. Thank you. I just wish I had known this when Pepe had the abscess from the puncture wound...but the abscess probably would have changed the symptoms and therefor the remedy, right? Thanks so much everyone, back to lurk mode where I belong. (for a while anyway:-))
