tetnus prevention (puncture wound)

Please allow me to tell you about a puncture wound case. I was tearing down large beams from an old building and one of the 8 inch by 8 inch by 12 foot beams broke loose as I was prying it away. This beam was studded with old spikes about 3/8 inch wide and 12 inches long. The beam rolled loose and fell, trapping my arms under it as it fell. My arms were trapped under the beam and one spike ran completely through my right arm between the radius and ulna midway between the wrist and the elbow, into the dirt floor. The left arm was also trapped and one spike caught the inside of my wrist and drove through the skin. Scary stuff for an old girl working alone.
I nearly fainted from the shock and pain but fortunately I was caught under the end of the beam and not in the middle or I would never had been able to lift it at all.
I had been driven to my knees, so I leveraged the beam away from me and rolled it slightly forward. The spikes were literally through both arms. I pulled away from the spikes and again nearly passed out from the pain. I collapsed on the floor just gasping for breath.
Fortunately I always carry a 30C kit in the truck. I staggered to the truck and fumbled the Ledum open and took probably 5 pellets. I repeated the Ledum every couple minutes until my head cleared enough to drive home.
Once home I scrubbed the wounds with hot water and soap but there was surprisingly very little bleeding. Both arms were horribly swollen by then.
I then took Ledum 200C and Hypericum 200C alternating every 15-20 minutes and as the pain reduced extended the time between doses.
By the next morning the left arm was swollen but much better. The right arm was a mess. I almost went to the emergency room but I know enough to know there is little that can be done except administer antibiotics, etc.
I could feel the bones were not broken but the arm was swollen three times its normal size, was red, hot, and exquisitely painful. I switched to Hep Sul 200C and repeated the remedy throughout the day in a medicinal solution.
By the third day the wound was very infected and running a yellow pus that smelled like spoiled meat. Not to mention very painful. I began alternating Hep Sul 200C and Sil 200C both in medicinal solution.
The remedies were repeated every few hours for the next 5 days. Gradually the swelling reduced but the foul pus continued to drain. It took almost two weeks of repetition of the remedies and finally the wound began to drain less infection. The wound continued to open and drain for nearly a month. But it did heal.
The scar is an indentation of about 1/2 inch around with a pit in the center where the spike went through and another scar on the bottom of the arm. The left wrist has a purple scar. It was a frightening but enlightening experience.
