HELP WITH CASE

Dear Friends,
I am a bit frustrated with this case as I feel all the sxs are right in front of me and I can't see my way to a remedy.

A 63 yr old woman had been suffering with neck pain and shooting pains up back and down arm for some time. Drs. dx it as arthritis and later on MRI found narrowing of the spinal cord from vertebrae from C3-7 which they plan to fuse together!

But one day recently she cracked open an egg and touched the baby chick she surprisingly found inside. That sent her off gagging for a long time about it. Two days later she developed alot of involuntary movement in her neck, hands and feet and her head became very heavy, dropping to the right side. It is very noticeable in her presence that she is extremely fidgety, unable to hold her head up without effort. She is best lying down and after sleep but as soon as she is awake, it starts up again. She claims she is in constant pain, heavy feeling and pulling feeling in her neck and shoulders especially on the right side. She can't seem' to get away' from the constant pain even with pain meds except in short periods. She claims all this movement is to get some relief from the pain but movements are also quite involuntary. I also massage her and when I put my hands under her neck and head, there are clearly spasms in the neck and head is rigid.

I have given ign, bell, gels, nux-v and stram without any lasting relief. The best response was with the ign and nux. I am looking at zinc and cupr...but feel frustrated by the case and do not want to just throw remedies at her and increase her discomfort.

She is frustrated that she is not getting any help from her doctors.

thanks
scg

Dear SCG
Wow! That must have been a shock to her!!
Now the interesting question is why it was SUCH a shock. What earlier experience or emotional trauma did that experience set off within her? Why was she gagging? How was she gagging (is that a metaphor, or a physical reality?)? What else comes to her mind immediately when she thinks back on that "gross" moment of touching the chick? Etc....
She already had the stenosis, and the arthritic symptoms, and somehow this made it worse. Has she had any dreams she remembers since this experience? Has she previously experienced symptoms that the present ones would remind her of? What have previous shocking experiences in her life been, and what symptoms did they excite? Etc, etc.... It seems like it might present an interesting opportunity to get to the bottom of the symptoms she already had and help her significantly. (Hopefully).
Rosemary

Seriously, I'm relatively stable emotionally (wink) and you would have to pick me up off the floor if that ever happened to me. No earlier experience necessary... that would be quite enough. And then right after that, you'd have to clean up the throw up... probably for days. I don't think that's an abnormal reaction at all. The eventual result yes, but the initial shock and response - no.
Sorry I don't have any suggestions.
Truly,
Erica

Head; Heavy; and would drop from one side to other, head were too (1) : fl-ac.
Head; Heavy; head were too (3) : am-m., nat-m., puls.
I think though Cuprum a possibility which has spasm and complaints from fright and maybe a memory of old fright {Rosemary} Jean

Cuprum.m or Cuprum aceticum, Opium, Agar, Nux.vom look possibilities.

Rubrics from Knerr:

Retching and gagging after emotions ( with loathing) - Opium.
Opium might be a good remedy for the shock and its reaction.

Are the pain and movement better during sleep? How later do they come
back?
That the symptoms are better during sleep itself suggests that there
might be more mental overlay in this.

Agaricus gets better during sleep.
Nerves ->Chorea better sleep - Agar
Agar has right sidedness and has pain down the spine etc.

Chorea- - mental condition - emotional - Ign, Laur, Op, Tarant
worse from fright - Cup.ac
lying on back, better - Cup.ac, Ign

Neck, wry neck, after fright due to spinal disease - Nux.vom

Drawn to right shoulder - ( Chorea) Cup.m

Drawn to right - Aur.mur, Lyc

Hi,
I bet you will oppose me, but EFT may be best in such cases.
