There seems to be two sides 'arguing' over this contentious issue in
homeopathy. Is it that black and white? Classical, Hahnemannians vs.
The Contemporaries??

As a beginning student of homeopathy I want to know whether or not
these speculative theories can contribute something....anything of
value to homeopathy, in part or in their entirety. On the surface,
these theoretical systems seem trivial, but would evaluating it
systematically and with and open mind, would these mostly un-"proven"
meds/systems actually pan out? In short term? LONG-Term?

Most importantly do these systems ultimately help or hurt our dear
patients, who absolutely deserve the best practices that homeopathy
can offer.

Any thoughts would be welcomed!

Some quick thoughts--
No!!! At least not according to those who consider themselves
classical, and yet are studying and (apparently) benefitting from the
"contemporaries".

Personally I have only passing familiarity, but have heard several
experienced homeopaths say that one or another of these methods have
enabled them to cure cases that they had been previously unable.
Why trivial?
It's true that they aren't really bringing in *new* ideas--just
exploring and developing more fully ideas that have been knocking
around in homeopathy since its beginning; e.g. "remedy families" and
deeper / broader concepts regarding the nature of "symptoms". But why
do you say trivial?
In some cases they are panning out extreme well.
In other cases less so.
I suspect / assume that the difference lies in the *context* in which
they are used--is the practitioner doing a careful and accurate job of
assessing the case and understanding the remedy, and are they (to
whatever extent possible) making sure that the overall case fits, not
just an isolated part (not *just* a sensation or etc.)?

I think you would agree that when one of these methods enables the
homeopath to give a really well-acting remedy, which they would not
otherwise have given, then it has helped...

Too much of the discussion here has been from people who have no
particular knowledge of or experience with the system(s) they are
criticizing! IMO that is not a useful way to find out about how they
work!

Hi Kimberly,

This problem was discussed quite in detail by some of the best known
homeopaths on either side of the issue, and all or part of the
discussion is still available on Andre Saine's homepage, I think.
