begin with acute or chronic?

Question... 10 yo girl getting ready to start a remedy for ADD/oppositional behaviors. Recently more oppositional behaviors. Mother attributes to recent death of the girl's uncle (suicide). I'm not sure that's the case. Would you start as planned with the chronic remedy (Calc Phos) or should she start with something for grief. Any thoughts?
Thanks!

Erica

If the present picture seems outside of the calc-p picture, then you
should begin with the present picture. But--do not assume that "grief"
is the emotion. Will she talk about it? Could be grief, or fear, or
guilt, or shock--try to find out what her thoughts, feelings, fears,
regrets, etc., are, and take that in context of any other new current
symptoms.
Good luck!

Thanks Shannon,
Sound advice! I appreciate it.

We'll see what happens. Last time
I asked her a few questions to try to get a better understanding of
something her response was, "My, you sure are a nosy one." ;p Most
of the answers come from the mom.
Thanks again!

I really think you need to speak with the girl and ascertain what is the most important thing to prescribe on. Always go for the most apparent symptoms first. If that is the grief then go with that.

) My, she sure is a mouthy one!

Is she of an age and temperament where you can just explain the
process, or does she simply not like to talk (or answer questions, or
what would it be?)?
Did you also talk with her alone, without mom there--if mom is there,
probably she'll just wait for mom to tell?

Hi, ERica.
Good question! Personally, I'd feel more confident giving an acute remedy if there were several changes in the child's chronic state after the uncle's death, including one or more physical general symptoms. In any case, in a situation like this, it's a good idea to retake the case, giving special importance to mental and general symptoms that may have changed since the initial casetaking, and see if a different remedy is indicated now. With kids it's always possible that a purely emotional change like more oppositional behavior could simply be a result of normal developmental stages. A new casetaking would help to sort that out.

Thank you Shannon, Vera, Rochelle, and Rosemary,
After re-investigating, it appears it is really an exaggeration of her same chronic behaviors. I also received further info from a support person (not the mother) who has a clearer perspective and while the impetuous may be grief, the chronic symptoms/behaviors have not changed - only intensified. So I went ahead with the original Rx of Calc-Phos except I added 2 dilution glasses to the test dose in case the emotional/sensitivity has also increased.
The sibling on the other hand was clearly in need of Ignatia.
I really appreciate the good responses. It's a great help!
