Parliamentary Early Day Motion on Homeopathy in the NHS

The battle is reaching a critical phase with important PCTs about to take
decisions and the renewed attack this week by Born, Baum Ernst and co.
Our Early day Motion is doing quite well: 117 signatures so far. See

Subject: Please sign EDM 1240 in support of NHS Homoeopathic Hospitals
Dear xxx,
This is to ask you to sign Early Day Motion 1240 'NHS Homoeopathic
Hospitals'. As you may know there are four NHS homoeopathic
hospitals/specialist clinics in England (The Royal London, Bristol and
Tunbridge Wells Homoeopathic Hospitals and the Liverpool Clinic). Despite
their names, these units provide a range of complementary and alternative
treatments, not just homeopathy, fully integrated into the NHS. They make
an important contribution to the health of the nation and to patient choice,
offering clinically-effective and cost-effective solutions to common health
problems faced by NHS patients, including many chronic, difficult to treat
conditions.
The homoeopathic hospitals are unique resources, highly valued by their
patients, with a proud record of developing and providing safe, effective
non-drug based treatments for common conditions. They have great potential
to make further contributions, and to reduce the NHS's dependency on drug
treatments.
The combined budget of these homoeopathic units is about £5m/year, a tiny
proportion of the NHS budget. Yet in the current financial turbulence
affecting the NHS their future is threatened by short-term, local,
financially-driven decisions by PCTs.
I hope you will sign the EDM calling on the government to actively support
these valuable national assets.

Thanks for posting this Christine - I thought Ardavan had said not to post 'political emails' so I had not sent it onto this list, but since you have posted it I wanted to add the bit off the bottom of Peter's email about the petition which we are still trying to ramp up signature wise.

This Early Day Motion is known as EDM 1240.

UK members on this list: the numbers, as you can see from Peter
Fisher's letter, are still far short of ensuring this EDM reaches
Parliament. If your MP HAS signed (ie is positive towards the
issue), why not write to them again - with a request that they use
their contacts to encourage fellow MPs to sign. The more of us write,
the more chance there is. Go on!

I know Ardavan doesn't want anything political sent to this group and in my opinion it hasn't. The closure of the London Homeopathic Hospital would be very very serious indeed, especially for homeopathy in general here in the UK, and I'm sure Ardavan would appreciate the the situation we're in.

Appealing to MPs for sake of Homoeopathy is not 'political' in the sense that Ardavan would be concerned about.
(Else I would have jumped on it long before)

Thanks for clarification - when I was posting the info about Bill 1082 going through Senate, Ardavan posted then and I like to try and respect what the limits of the list are.

I know full well how dire the situation is - as you know I sent the original email alerting the homeopathic community about the issue back in February and set up the petition. Yes it's dire and we need all the options to get the word out and keep up the momentum. Trust me, I am spending most days doing something towards saving the RLHH - the article I wrote for Homeopathy Today lays out the orchestrated campaign to close it - if anyone needs that background I can send you the relevant paras, though I'm sure the NCH would rather you bought a copy of the entire magazine .

Are the postings re legislative matters--sign petition, call your
representatives, etc.--okay to post? It would seem to me that those
are extremely topical, not "political" in the usual sense?

If it is directed at promoting any aspected to do with Homoeopathy - I would say yes - they are allowed.
