I"m wondering...do you always tell the patient what
remedy you are giving? Under what circumstances, and
for how long might you withhold this information from
the patient? I'm curious to know how different people
handle this. THanks in advance.

Now I always tell them if they ask

I refused once ( a long time ago) and the patient was extremely put out. I realised later I had no right to withold this info, it was just the way I had been taught, but was not supportable once challenged, and that it was demeaning to the patient. So I phoned the patient , apologised, explaining why I had previously thought it correct policy and why I had changed my mind, thanked them for challenging me on it,and told them what it was.

I always tell patients except maybe if they are homeopaths or homeopathic students. I tend to discuss my Rx choice with them and even read out parts of MM (especially Sankaran's Soul of Rx) which I feel is relevant to their case. I often find I get extra information from them doing this. If I am giving a Rx like Carcinosin I will call it Carc (pronounced Cark) or say it is the C nosode.

Hello Gretta,
My clients never know what rx. they are on. If
they want/need to know, I tell them when they are off
of it only. The internet is a doozy when it comes to
this. Telling an Ars. client that I am giving them
something poisonous did not go over well about 5 yrs
ago after she looked it up. I have stuck to this
policy ever since.

Wasn’t it, in Dr. Hahnemann’s words, “the name of the disease is of no interest to me and the name of the remedy of none to you”? Have heard that he said that, at least.
I am very glad, as a layperson very interested in H, not to know what chronic remedy I am getting until well after the fact. Teresa (Northern VA)

I generally do, and then tell them a bit about what makes me feel the
remedy will be helpful for them--they are usually curious, and enjoy
this part! In my own treatment there was a time when I needed to NOT
be told the remedy--because I would go straight out and read about it,
then torture myself with second-guessing, overanalyzing my responses or
lack of, and finally realized I'd be better off just not knowing for a
while. My h'th had come to the same conclusion at about the same time,
so we agreed that he'd tell me *after* the rx had either worked or not
worked. If he'd simply refused, tho, I think I would have been
annoyed!

However, none of my pts are in that situation, so I tell them. I had
one exception, when I wanted to give my teenaged niece syphilinum, and
for obvious reasons wasn't eager to give her that name. I tried to
have the pharmacy label is Leuticum, but they said they could only do
that for me if I had been an MD. But since I'm a "mere" professional
homeopath, they had to label it syphillinum. I don't know whether that
had anything to do with the fact that she never took it... Rats.

On the other hand, some years before that when I wanted to give her
older brother Med, he was delighted to learn what it was, and took it
happily! (And yup, it helped him a lot.) Usually if giving a nosode,
and asked what it is, I talk a bit about the wide range of odd
substances that remedies can be made from, and the fact that the
yukkier, or even the more poisonous, the starting substance is, the
deeper the range and scope of ills that it can heal. It's worked out
so far!

When dealing with tricky remedies like Med and Syph I try to give an explanation that is mainly correct but with concepts people can understand.
For example, I explain that both of these diseases, when poorly treated, produce genetic damage that is passed on to future generations, creating predispositions to particular health problems – that the symptoms of their current health problem indicate that this sort of damage has been passed to them (probably from way back) – that the use of this remedy has been shown to alleviate and correct this damage and strengthen the genetic material that will be passed to their children and their children’s children so that they are not predisposed to the same sort of health problems.
When I explain it this way, they are usually more than happy to take the remedy. Of course, we know that basic cause is energetic damage flowing through to the physical but if I talk about genes they can understand so much better.

approach to empowering the client.
It DOES empower the client - they take part in the healing, they take
responsibility better - they do better by understanding that this is not
some secret magic stuff but a real health system that they CAN
understand and work with in a good way.

My clients get to make up an aqueous remedy from a single little globule
themselves - so that THEY understand that the energy of those 100
succussions I tell them to do - is REAL energy - and is what's needed to
do the work - so long as they succussed the right thing.
They FEEL that energy they put into the remedy.

What if "beer truck syndrome" happens (homeopath run over by beer truck
by accident) and the client gets a bad aggravation? Is the next
homeopath supposed to be clairvoyant about it?

Apart from this, you may be breaking pharmacy laws of your state/country
to not divulge the remedy.
